BitCo Consumer Review

Netflix and Hulu Plus

I have noticed that on Netflix I have zero issues, throttled or not. On Hulu though the effect can be seen very clearly. Do you experience the same? I have completely left Hulu now because of it. Don't know if it's Netflix's way of delivering the content or if there is something else but their quality just seems to stay much longer or unaffected at all as opposed to Hulu. *Personal experience* also on 5Mbps

Netflix does seem to have slightly better quality than Hulu, i have seen that. Hulu also buffers sometimes for no apparent reason. Just for 2/3 seconds then restores.

I'm scared to try Spotify as my single source of music because that will just add to my throttling escapade lol

lol, I'm currently sitting with the upgrade quote to 10mbps. I want to upgrade but the wife says it's not needed :o bleh, will see what I decide.

Until she gets the bill or looks @ bank statement...:o

I also want to upgrade to 10 Mpbs but I also got told we don't need it. *sigh*
I was actually very happy on the 5Mbps connection, but upgraded because of the higher upload speed. Helps me a lot when uploading data to the sites I support.

Just got a call from my wife - installers were at my house and have LOS, but it is greater than 6km from the high site. Said they have to report back to BitCo for a decision to be made, so BitCo rep - please keep your eyes peeled and accept my pleas for a favourable review

PS In the context of speed discussions, I convinced my wife that if we're going for BitCo it means diving in the deep end. Applied for 10Mbps so that there is no need to renegotiate at a later stage :)

What are the updated prices for their home wireless uncapped??
Are their website prices current?
What about installation costs?

Still trying to get hold of a representative from Bitco.

Pretty much everything on their website is current afaik.

I sent this before but just for reference, this was on TechCentral

Like other uncapped services, BitCo enforces an acceptable use policy, though this policy is fairly straightforward. It says simply that if someone runs torrents continuously, after an hour of maximising the line, the system automatically limits them to 50% of their throughput until they back off. After an hour, the line will once again run at full speed. Torrents are also deprioritised during the day, but are unrestricted after 6pm in the evening. There is no throttling on streaming video services like Netflix, says Van Sittert.

I find the last part particularly interesting

Viashen it seems like you have some kind of Vendetta against BitCo and the way the shape their links.
To be honest it is a lot better then ADSL and a lot more cost effective.
If you want a premium service you must be prepared to pay for it unfortunately we are not a first world country where bandwidth is dirt cheap.

I think BitCo is doing a great job thus far and i much prefer their fair usage policy to that of ADSL ISP's

just my 2Cents

Hey Andy

It's not really a vendetta. All i want is fairness

When we signed up we entered into an agreement between ourselves and Bitco, we pay money for a service that we see advertised

If we hold up our end of the deal should the service provider not do the same ?

Bitco is one of the better ISP's out there, no doubt

Changing the wording on the website after i take the package doesn't really change the service i signed up for if you know what i mean

If i get what the service said i could do i would be ecstatic and a very happy customer :)

Is there any word on the new towers in Pretoria East? I'm sitting with a quote for WiradXtreme (Bankserv) but I'd really rather go with Bitco...

10 days and still waiting on a quote...

Hi SplaT,

Please can you PM us your full name so we can see where your request is?

If you have the ticket number you received from Home broadband when you logged your request this would also be very helpful

Apologies for the delay, i am not sure how this request slipped through the system

Mike

Ohhhhhh noooooooo! Techies were here today for LOS, can see the towers but signal is too weak. Ohhhh am I destroyed!

@ Bitco any chance you will be expanding in PTA north Florauna? There are a number of towers very close to me, but they are not yours!

What do I do guys? Any advice, Telkom ADSL @ 2 meg max, I can't take it!

:cry::cry:

I want to hear from somebody who is using BitCo VOIP.
Is the call quality reliable? Is it cost effective compared to my old Telkom line?
Which wireless IP phone is affordable and works well for general home use?
Is there any Callmore time after hours?
PS; BitCo have installed my hardware within 8 days from signing the contract. Thanks BitCo! It exceeded my expectations by far.
