BitCo Consumer Review

My pathetic excuse for an ISP http://netgauge.ookla.com/share/269596295.png (This is a 5mbs connection thats not being FUP'd), whenever peak times hit, this is what me (and I suppose a lot of others have to deal with), Bitco getting greedy and signing up way to many users than their infrastructure can handle, during the day everything runs flawless, when night time hits I might as well be left with a edge connection, tried CSGO, Rust and Diablo 3 in the past half an hour, everything is unplayable, if you're reading this and considering Bitco, then I'd advise you to STEER CLEAR!!

It started again today. I am getting the same results @ Samrand, Centurion :wtf:

Not a BitCo client and have only heard good things about BitCo out of interest sake would someone mind to please post a tracert to bbc.co.uk - this is purely out of curiosity as BitCo is a "tier1 service provider?"

Same for me unfortunately. This whole week my connection hasn't worked properly in the evenings. Tonight has been the worst. In Forza the liveries wouldn't even load in single player. :( During the day and in the mornings the connection is fine though.

So I get home after work and want to watch some Netflix. All equipment, pc etc have been off all day.

Picture quality sucks and I'm getting buffering (10mb line) - I figure something must be wrong so log a ticket. This the response:

The reason was that your line was being full utilized during that time for a period of up to 1 hour.

Your ticket status is 'Waiting on Client'.

I've only been home half an hour.. This feels like an auto reply rather than an investigation ..

I think bitco is losing it, c'mon guys

Well there is some fine print for you:

Dear ***

It depends on what quality you are streaming at. Different resolutions use a different amount of bandwidth. Throttled to 5Mbps gives you enough bandwidth for 480p or 320p. If you add general browsing it decreases the speed further.

Your ticket status is 'Waiting on Client'.

You should be able to stream @ 720p on 5Mbps without any problems. I can stream 720p youtube without any buffering on 2Mbps LTE connection.

I sent a ticket about a month ago. Got a reply last week or so. Apparently my link's packet loss is being investigated but nothing is improving and I'm starting to believe nothing will ever improve with this ISP. I have had problems for ages and no **** is given. Thanks BitCo for the constant horrible link. Perma packet loss. This link has mood swings. Sometimes its acceptable (since I'm already used to loss because i've been playing with it for more than a year) and other times its just horrible, like now. 900+ ms in games? Nice Bitco, nice. I hope that everyone loses faith in you bastards. You are a bunch of incompetent losers.

I want a solution. I want my link to be directed to another tower. Btw, I added that in the ticket I made and all I get a response for is the packet loss issue. I am trying to tell you that a solution for my packet loss might be linking me to another tower, which is possible since new towers have been constructed in my area. Wake the **** up and help me please.

I think what everyone with issues is forgetting in this thread is that this equipment runs on 5Ghz ISM spectrum, which is open for anyone to use, this is the limiting factor, not the actual equipment.

So it can be prone to interference and inconsistencies as noise levels change in your area, noise is a problem, even in my sleepy town :-)

Out of interest sake - what is the common kit Bitco uses at a Home client?

Hi Guys,

Yes you are correct in the above posts, our home broadband service last mile is delivered on ISM band also known as open spectrum, typically in the 5GHz band.

The equipment is not the limitation it is the very congested airwaves around South Africa.

We have very strict technical parameters for our installations which results in many users being unable to obtain our services even when in a coverage zone.

All our home Broadband connections have distance and signal parameters we need to meet in order for installation and soak testing to begin.

our Business products are very different and use a licensed spectrum last mile, it is a completely different scenario as we cannot experience radio interference.

The business products offer a much higher speed with symmetrical access over long distances, we currently deliver many 100Mbps Symmetrical links to our business customers on a weekly basis.

All the high sites on our network will either be using Dark Fibre back-hauls or licensed spectrum back-haul and in most cases a combination of both to ensure full redundancy in the even of a fibre or radio failure.

The towers we choose to co-locate on are typically owned by large GSM operators resulting in a very small amount of open spectrum equipment being on the tower so we can manage the frequency as effectively as possible to ensure the highest quality internet experience for our customers.

We have considered a home offering using our licensed frequency but find the costing to be significantly more than our current product based on the equipment & license fees associated with our spectrum.

We are working hard to keep costing as low as possible but deliver the highest quality product for our customers.

Geez guys, I'm losing my mind with the BitCo connection I have. Speeds are so inconsistent. They told me 5MB was guaranteed, and even after I said "Look man, let's be real, you can't guarantee 5MB", the guy insisted that I would always have 5MB.

Today, the whole day, I've had a 1.2MB line - the same slow ass 1.2MB line I had for most of yesterday.

I'm so tired of this :(

At the same time, I feel like BitCo has a pair of handcuff on my wrists, because they're the only internet connection that works at my home. We don't have DSL lines, and we all know how awful 3G connections are. I had one here before with one of those mobile hotspots, and it was awful. So now I'm stuck paying the 900 bucks for a connection that sucks, and I have no choice because it's either this, or nothing :(

Have you sent them an email? I had problems, sent them an email explaining the situation and they asked for a screenshot of the speed test which I sent and then they sent it to technical or something and voila, everything is working perfectly again. So it really helps to contact support.

Hi EttVenter,

Thanks for the post. Have you logged a support request for our technical team to have a look?

From a quick look on my side i think i can find your connection based on your alias here on MYBB, you are in PTA side of the network and your connection is perfect at 1KM away from the high site.

From what i can see using the graphing tool your link has been running at 100% capacity since last night around 6pm, as you have reached the FUP you will only be able to get speeds of 2Mbps Download until such time as the connection usage lowers and FUP reset.

I can see on the usage graphs that you do reach your 5Mbps speeds prior to hitting the FUP.

Can you double check that something is not continuously downloading in the background?

I have reset your FUP now at 8:30PM so if you do a speedtest you will get an accurate reflection of your speed.

If you experience any issues please log with [email protected] and you welcome to pop us a PM with your ticket number.

Mike
