Yes but Bitcoin doesn't give you a cheap setup. Ethereum would be better with 4GB+ cards but it's still going to take months or years to break even. Otherwise the second best option for older cards is Ethereum Classic.

Sorry i made a mistake double posted.I dont understand when you say to break even it takes months or years.I got all the components to build a rig and its all second hand stuff which was just lying around.I estimate it all came to like 3000 rand lol.Can i put this rig in the roof and leave it there.control the pc via remote view. Its got a wifi card in.Realistically i would like to make like 25 rand a week.Store and forget.
I am truly a noob about this entire thing.I just thought i could put these old computers to use.

By second hand I assume you mean grfx cards and such rather than ASICs which is where Bitcoin is at. In that case you can probably get like R200 per flashed RX580 or similar a month. An RX560 would net you about R100 but they came in 4GB which can't mine Ethereum any more so you'd need to go for something like Ethereum Classic.

Also I know you're probably joking, or I hope you are, but putting it in the roof would be bad. You'd need some good ventilation and even then it would be a punishment on the fans so better to use some cheap case fans and remove the stock fans from the start.

You need to say what GPU you have. None of us know what you've got lying around at home and can't help unless you provide those details. Waste of your time if it's old hardware though. You'll get more selling those pc's for R500 each.

i think they are 8800gtx ones using agp slots...lol.Ok i will try to find better hardware then come back to this thread.SO what type of rig can produce at least R400 a month. Can you give me an example with pictures please.I see on gumtree someone selling a rig for R56000 rand and he says it makes about R250 to R300 a day.Is this true.

Go do the work yourself. If you're gonna start mining go get the hashing power of those cards and plug it into a ROI calculator and see for yourself.

I mine Ethereum. My rig with 10 cards makes just over R1000 profit a day right now after Eskom costs with a combo of 3060Ti/3070/3080/5700xt GPUs. The most profitable cards as far as profit/payback ratio goes are the RTX 3060Ti and older AMD 5700/5700XT. They also have amazing resale value but are not cheap.

If you're on a tight budget then look for 8GB AMD RX 480 and RX 580 second hand for about R3K as the best value. a 6x card rig of those with free electricity would make you over R8000 a month with current ETH at $1600. But that of course could go to half or double depending on the market.

What's your hash rate? I get 15.6Mh/s on a RX560.

I'm getting 720Mh/s total with 3x 3060Ti, 3x 3080, 2x 3070 and 2x 5700XT. The 5700XT's with Samsung memory are crazy bang for buck - 54Mh/s pulling only 98w after editing the bios. The 3080's pull 99-101Mh/s but at 225w.

I'm mining on Hive OS with Phoenix Miner.

GAWD DAMN....lol thats a moerse lot of money for a day,you rig must be about 200000.
Only reason i want to try this mining thing is just to install and forget and with the money pay my fibre line, thats it.

Unfortunately I don't think a 8800gtx can even mine. Even at current prices buying new components will take a few months to pay off and you don't know what will happen in future.

A quick question - unless you find a store/place that will accept Bitcoin as payment, the only way you can sell your BC is on an exchange - where someone uses actual money to buy it from you?

Anyone had any luck changing a cell number on their Luno account? I completed their query form on their website 10 days ago..

I changed numbers and phones, 2FA was on the old phone - so I cannot even unlock the account as the OTP they send is still to the old number
