This section has been full of serious and depressing news of late, I saw this headline on the way to work and thought it was an appropriate way to get a few people to laugh at the stupidity of some in this country.

FOR years, Vusi Ramalatso and his wife thought they were being tormented by bed bugs.

But spraying their bed with insecticides didn’t help. Finally they consulted a sangoma, who told them their tormentor was . . . a tokoloshe!

They had consulted five sangomas, but they failed to chase it away.

Then last Thursday a sangoma dug up strange muthi in front of their house in Mapetla, Soweto.

It was a clay head with feathers and eyes. They were told it was planted there to make their lives miserable.

The sangoma broke it and out popped two knives, a toy gun and a bloodied pad.
Vusi said his life was hell before the muthi was dug up.

“We couldn’t sleep peacefully for six years. Things walked on the roof and I fought a lot with my wife,” he said.

He said his wife was struggling to conceive. “The sangoma told us the pad in the head was to curse my wife not to have children.”

“My wife kept on waking up feeling weak as the bed bugs drained too much blood from her.

“The sangoma told us the bites were meant for her to leave the house and never come back so I would be a lonely man,” said Vusi.

“I hope things will go back to normal. We have suffered enough, we pray to God to chase them,” he said.

The sangoma burned the muthi and told the couple they will never suffer again.

This sounds serious to me. These poor people are victims of the most heinous of gremlins.

interesting...

iv seen a few things in my time, to put some sort of truth to this. believe it, dont believe it.. totally up to the individual..

put truth to it? Really?

This is an idiot who still believes in the nonsense peddled by Sangomas and has been fleeced by another one. When this country starts to get over its general bloody superstition we may actually have a chance of becoming the country we are capable of being.

Glad they can live happily ever after and that they will be able to vote in the next election.

I love how normal day to day problems are explained as magic and spells.

Bed-bugs/Tokoloshe = Dirty Linen
Fighting with wife = Marital problems
Not able to conceive = nature
Things walking on roof = pigeons
Waking up weak = babalas

And therein lies one of the biggest problems in society--simply allowing people to believe in whatever nonsense they want to, without confrontation.

Thanks to that nonsense we have:
Kill all gays.
Superstitious nonsense that contributes to all sorts of harm ranging from dangerous religious cults to tarot cards.
The belief that vaccines cause autism, so yay for the resurgence in dreadful diseases that we'd nearly eradicated.
A significant money-making industry that thrives off of woo (psychics, 'applied kinesiology', homeopathy, rhino horn, etc).
And any number of conflicts across the planet.

All because people are allowed to believe whatever bull**** they've been brainwashed to believe without ever being challenged, confronted or otherwise educated. Because, you know, these self same people are so positively inclined to challenge their own intellectual bat****tery.

Pretty much similar to christians/muslims etc

I just thought of a new and unique SA TV show: Tokoloshe Hunters

Drive around the country to places that have reported Tokoloshe sightings and try and capture the evil critters on video. Surely a market for that sort of entertainment.

Maybe they can slot it in between Jerseylicious and Cake Boss on TLC
