Got the promotion I was hoping for, at considerably less remuneration than was promised. Not sure if happy.

Still a good thing.

Take the job, get the experience for a few months. Then find something else with the new title.

I believe their promises were made with good intentions, HR was a big stumbling block. Its probably around 1.5 -2k more than my current salary for MUCH more work and responsibility.

However the experience will probably mean more than the cash in the long term (in terms of future employability)

Hahaha, in terms role we are equal - the level promised would have put me 1 tier above her - goddamit

That could have been a deciding factor. Given her track record, it's very possible that she colluded with HR on the figure.

Who made the promise of a significantly improved package to you?

Her manager's manager made the promise. My manager has no input regarding remuneration for the new role. Its decided at a far higher level.

We have a very tall organogram

Did HR tell you that? How was the promise made, verbally?

At the least, you should be earning slightly less to parity with what your current manager is earning, if your role is equivalent in nature.

Honestly, I think it's time you looked elsewhere. Your crazy current manager plus backtracking on promises made does not paint this company in a good light IMO.

Good advice. Except probably more than a few months, you'd need to do it for like a year to be taken seriously. Otherwise it will look like you couldn't handle the more senior position.

I am earning probably around 2k less than my manager (I know her salary because I do costing reports), I am moving to a completely different part of the business though, my salary will be on the same "band" as hers, however the roles are not comparable.

Do you think the situation would be untenable? Otherwise the experience and title could be worth it.

When I asked about package - senior manger added "negotiable", I don't think the "level" is negotiable - but the money might be. Will have to see in November when I meet with HR.

I was told a while ago that should I not be happy with the salary and turn the position down it would be very career limiting. I think some people jumped through hoops to get me promoted during a strong drive for BEE candidates company wide.
