Exactly - except for the PS5 deal from Game and FNB, there were no actual specials that warrants a so called 'Black Friday'.
 
I know friends that buy their year's supply of certain products on black friday (groceries) and this year that shopping list was notably shorter

Why BF tho? Rather quit with the BF nonsense and start own scam day. Like the Chinese single's day.

And why there's always no specials from the crappy SA web hosters. I sit with 6 vps'es that i picked up this year from abroad, of which i currently have no need. Just bought 'em because of the proper specials, and wait for it...recurring discounts, it comes with.
 
Because South African retailers have no clue what an actual Black Friday special is. The savings most of them offered where dire.
 
There was no BF from retailers this year.

Nothing was sold at a significant discount, everything was marked up a few weeks to months ago and then put on special at the actual price.

So yea, own goal by retailers.

I think quite a lot of engineers and such would struggle to get decent marks in advanced language courses.
