Okay if anyone can help me with this i would appreciate it. This is what happened:

Last night when i got home after work i switched on my pc only to find that the screen isn't functioning. It just stays black (in standby mode). And the LED's on the front of the box dont even come on. I tried resetting a couple of times, nothing. I checked all the cabling and connectors, still nothing. Unplugged, one by one, the video card, RAM, DVD-writer and hard drive. No effect. All the fans are working fine, but no screen activity.

So this morning before going to work i plugged everything back in.. and voila!, everything back to normal! Everything functioning!

Can anyone help? I dont want to go on like this only for something to pop or get fried in a weeks time.
Thanks!

This also happened to me once, turned out to be static electricity build-up in the case and around the PSU in particular (don't ask me how). I assume that's what happened here.

What beanie said :>>>

Could have been a power surge, or somethin' similar. Some power supply's have a cutout circuit.. some botherboard have it too.

Basically once it had a surge like that, u need to put off the pc , also switch off the powersupply switch, and at the powersocket. Then give it 20seconds or so. Then turn the wallsocket on, then powersupply. and startup the pc.

Okay I'll try that next time if it happens. Whats the best way to stop this from happening?

I get this sometimes, and found that unplugging the network cable and then plugging it back in seems to solve the problem.
I then found that resetting my switch [network hub] solved the problem even better, seems the switch [which is a piece of rubbish] would get all confused and lock the NetWork card up. The PC POST can wait for like 20 minutes for a response from the network card at boot time because they have changed the BIOS to include "Boot from LAN" facilities, so it will just sit there and wait foreva.

Anyways .. i've only seen this happen to me and 2 PC's at work. At work, we now use decent 1GB switches and the problem has dissapeared completely. At home .. welll .. i'm not going to be buying a switch any time soon.

Or you could use a UPS, that would also stop most surges. I haven't had that happen to me after I installed my UPS.
