I have posted this under the blackberry thread as well, but thought I might have more luck putting it under the mac thread.

I am wanting to set my blackberry up as a modem on my mac. I am on Mac OS 10.5.8, and I have a blackberry 8310 with with the BB 4.5 OS, and I am on the vodacom network

Can you guys please assists me on setting up my blackberry as a tethered modem on my Mac?

Do I need to use bluetooth, or can I use it via USB as a tethered modem?

I don't know if it works differently for blackberries but the usual process for bluetooth modem-ing is as follows:

1. Add your phone to bluetooth devices in the normal way
2. When it asks about services it should offer to access the internet with your phone's data connection - click though that
3. When it is finished setting up, go to Network preferences and add a new connection - Bluetooth and use guest for the username and guest for the password and internet for the APN and apply (don't put a telephone number in - if you were on windows you'd use *99#). You may have to select a modem script, or possibly download one for the blackberry (see http://www.taniwha.org.uk/ for scripts)
4. You should then be able to hit connect either in the network preferences pane, or on the little phone at the top right of your screen.

Those settings are for vodacom, but you can google for settings if you're on another network.

If you get stuck - try using Tether, it's a Mac app for tethering your BB's internet connection to your Mac...
http://tether.com/

Just be aware - not a free app, they do have a trial though...

I managed to get this working on a Bold 9000. There is a thread here somewhere explaining how i did it. Will find you the thread a little later, but a search wont hurt you :)

I posted a reply in the BB section...have a look there.

Not sure about the username and password mentioned above. I have different settings...will post when I'm on my Mac later...

Think my APN is set to internet. Will confirm the telephone number as well.

what modem script do I need for a 8310? I have the Blackberry 8100 script. I have put the settings in as mentioned, but the modem connects, then disconnects. Any ideas?
