Just wondering is blackberry is under the CPA for the cellphone networks affected? Like do we get a rebate or something for a service we are paying for and not receiving?

Curious question..

Arg...

No, they are not...
at best you can HOPE that VC or MTN might prorata your subscription for their blackberry services... you have no claim over RIM themselves as you have no contract with them.

This is what i was worried the CPA might do to consumers.

As BOFH said, RIM only control the data streamed through their network on their BIS and BES. The Cellular SPs in SA have very very little they can actually do if you were to claim for your two days of missed service.

With my BIS down, my phone is just a normal cellphone again. I will survive. I have internet at home and at work, and can still email and GTalk all my friends and family. If its really an emergency I'll send an sms or make a *gasp* phone call.

It's seriously only R4 or R6. RIM has identified the problem and are working to resolve it. Don't be such a nitpicker! :)

LOL ... How old-school does it not feel to actually have to type a SMS, or speak to someone on the phone

In my case it's extremely unpleasant. I hate making/receiving/participating in phone calls. Even with my particular dislike, I will still survive the great BIS outage of 2011. I made 3 phone calls yesterday! Go me! :D

Well I don't actually care that BIS is out, I was just curious. Not like I am gonna go complain about my R6.

Its turning into another ANC service delivery thing ;)

The normal gprs worked if you configured the APN.
And I believe the CPA won't help because the problem was not intentional, the companies making up for it<free apps> and have explained the situation properly.

From a guy whose entire business depends on BIS since his laptop broke. lol
