Blackberry Bold 9780 Question.

no nothing to worry about

i just did a back up for safety incase something was needed that got deleted

but the wipe clears everything messages contacts calendar entries and apps if im not mistaken

did you get the cable to work ...or just get a cable from the pakistani guys around the corner wont be more than r50

HA HA HA yeah those paki's can't speko the language but they know the prices of USB cables.

I gonna test it now at 3pm when I have the phone with me. It does look like it will work as kilo did send me the specs so just to test it myself.

Here's the problem with a backup, my wife has the 1 BB and updates it via her pc and it backed it up but she does not know where it is backed up too or what the file is called. The eldest comes home a few nights ago with her BB 9310(or something like that) and mom tells her dont warri we will soon have your phone updated yada yada so we put it on and after trial and error it updates THEN problems happen. Phone does half an update or something so we try on my pc and it does not even register on my pc so back to another pc and it works so all is well until daughter wants to go home and all her contacts are gone and some programs.

IT WAS NOT ME!!!!!!!

UPDATE: We checked that the 9780 cable does fit the 8520 BB.

As far as I'm aware, Desktop Manager creates a backup of the phone while updating it. Try checking in Documents > BlackBerry > Backup on the pc that did half an update). The backup will be named with the name of the phone model (if you haven't changed that in Desktop Manager), and the date the backup was made. It will be named something like "BlackBerry 8520 (April 18, 2012).ipd"

Sent from my HTC Desire S

Cool man, thanks a mill, I will ask the wife to check.

Sorry to ask but when you find the backup how do you get that info into the phone?

You're welcome! :) When you connect the phone to the pc, and start up desktop manager, you need to restore the backup by going to Device > Restore, then it'll open up the folder the backup is in, and just choose the relevant backup.

Cool, thanks bud much appreciated. Just told the wifey now that she must do what you suggested.

Why do some people think that all BB's have wi fi? I had issues with 2 people already telling me that their BB's have wi fi when GSMARENA tells me otherwise. 3G and whatever else there is is not wi fi.

On which device?

No particular device but when I was looking for a BB I get an email from someone saying all BB's have wi fi, I reply that the BB 8310 does not have wi fi, then again a few days ago I had another guy contact me with regards his phone so I check on gsmarena and see it does not have wi fi but he says it does and so back and forth we go then he tells me he will check when he gets home and if not he will get it to work as he does repairs and upgrades, I have yet to hear from him again.

If you run a comparison of BB's on gsmarena you can see that not all BB's have wi fi and 3G is not wi fi.

When you get a secondhand BB there is obviously someone's info in the BBM part of it with their contacts, how do you set yourself up on that programme? I read that each BB has it's own IM/BBM code or pin is that true and do I use that code to invite others?

Do you manually delete the last persons contacts and add your own?

It's best to do a security wipe on the device, to remove all the previous person's information from the phone. That way you'll have a fresh phone to setup.

Yes, each BlackBerry has its own unique PIN that is used to identify it with, and that is what is used to chat on BlackBerry Messenger.

To add bbm contacts, you'll need the PIN, or email address of the person you wish to add, and enter it in the "Add new contact" option in BlackBerry Messenger.

Thanks man, much appreciated.

I don't think it's compatible with Windows 8. Try downloading the software from the BlackBerry website, as they might have a Win8 compatible version. I haven't checked, but it's worth a try. :)

If a Blackberry is Cell C locked, is there a code to unlock it? BB is an 8520.
