Hi,

Any new on the software update to I think .162? Has anyone tried it? Is it safe for us to go ahead and do the update? I've seen there is something for most operators, but nothing singled out for Vodacom.

Vodacom just updated to 4.5.0.81 :( - Always behind the international guys

Hmmmm... i was just told to go to canal walk to get the latest update. They confirmed the the phones were released with .126

Very cool man! Still haven't got around to getting the updates for the firmware... not in the mood for canal walk. But - I've got a whole lot of aps running news... ail... eather... essenging... etc. Battery lasts a heck of a lot longer than my old N95.And SMS'ing while driving is still possible - not that I do it too often of course ;)

sweet, hows the gps? i'm just waiting for stock, then i will also have me one....
unless i decide on an iPhone and jailbreak it :) But geez, once BB, always BB

I must be honest.. I haven't really used it yet. I'll give it a bash this week and let you know... but yea for sure the bold rocks! Seems like its more than a phone... :) Tis a way of life...

I've been playing with my buddies iphone.. and it looks pretty, and all of that - he has a ROCK PAPER SCISSORS game on it which is cool. But I prefer having the keys for the time being... and not really into the multimedia aspect and music etc on my phone.
But you have to jailbreak it or its a piece of cr@p...

Software Update - Vodafone UK

I enquired with Vodacare but while waiting I found this Vodafone UK update
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=1141938BA2C2B13F5505D7C424EBAE5F

This is version V4.6.0.162 (Platform 4.0.0.155) I installed it and my phone works great no issues at all.

Vodacom advised this version 9000M_PBr4[1].6.0_rel243_PL4.0.0.135_A4.6.0.126_Vodacom.exe

So far no problems with the Vodafone UK version after all the BlackBerry units from Vodacom are branded Vodafone.

Has anyone used the BB maps? I'm getting the MTN Bold, its on special, but no Satnav license included. Hows the native BBmaps? Anyone tried using it?

Please help me, and sorry for derailing the thread a bit :)

I have the BB 8310, on v 4.2.2.170, with MTN. How do I find out what is the latest v available and where do I get it? Please!

And thx!

Sorry guys, when it comes to MTN I really have no idea. The Vodacom unit comes with SatNav software it works great and is super fast and responsive.

Give MTN's data department a shout they should be able to direct you to a link!

Can u download files bigger than 5MB on MTN with your Blackberry? I could maybe forgive the other shortcomings if the Bold lets me download eg. 8/9MB MP3's, 10MB PDF files. Or is there simply no way with the BB APN?

what other shortcomings? :)

fruitbat, can u download > 5MB on your Bold.
no one has yet confirmed theres an actual cap in place. But if they do cap it, then its probably to prevent ppl from abusing the unlimited email, gps, browsing offer. Makes sense. The BB is the slickest messaging phone around, it doesnt get better, along with the other bonus features along the way. The Blackberry services are really there for that purpose, email, chat, sms, gps, browsing. i dont think it was intended to be a downloader tool :)
Not sure if others have managed to get passed the limitation with tethering and what not, i didnt even know it was possible, but i guess, given enough time and persistence, someone will find a way around anything...

On device - i haven't been able to get files > 5MB. I haven't tried tethering yet, but i'm sure that is fine.. since that is not uncluded in the unlimited data plan.

cool..

I have to say, i've been labouring with the thought of getting an Omnia over the Bold, because of the free Garmin and 16GB storage. I played with the Omnia on sat aswell, and i was fairly impressed.

However, I was working on my wifes BB curve last night again and the all familair friendly interface was so nice and pleasing to use, I've now officially decided, Bold it is! I really really like the KB, theres nothing like it, and o ya, the push email and o ya, the single view interface for all your messages etc. I mean, i was sms'ing, gtalking and emailing all from the same space. nothing irritates me more than to open a million apps to do their own each thing....I REALLY LOVE BBerry
Its cimple, funtional, clean and just down right solid, and o ya the battery life is absolutely the best I've ever experienced. My N82 lasts only like 2 days. But I'm using the camera, browser and GPS at least 1 -2 times a day. Still, I use all those things on the BB and the battery last almost a full week, its truly amazing

so goooooo and get it! :)

I had an incident on Friday evening... where things went a bit too far... Ended up with a bit of moisture on the phone, which thankfully was only for a brief second. Microphone on the phone was quiet for most of Saturday when I tried to use it. I was a little upset but accepted my stupidity.. then I spoke to someone today with it and ALL IS FINE *relieved*

But - I've used the BB GPS and its good... but I think i prefer the Garmin XT that I had on my N95. That was pretty much the same as when I borrowed a actual garmin GPS when I went up to rhodes earlier this year... I must test out the BB Bold on a longer trip... that'll have to wait for next year I thinks :)

i am getting it, so that makes it 1 x N82, 1 x Omnia, 1 x BBold. I think I went a little overboard.
so if anyone wants to buy an Omnia .... :)

I'm actually going to try all 3 out and the one I enjoy most i will keep. Its going to be a fun december :)
The N82 I will keep nontheless, so its up to the Omnia and the Bold
So yes, while I am long winded in making up my mind, once I do, I go big :)

Dudley,

let us know if you find another suitable app for the GPS seeing as MTN dont have a SatNav equivalent :)
