BlackBerry future murky

Struggling smartphone maker BlackBerry is weighing options that could include an outright sale, as its largest shareholder is stepping down from its board

Pension funds are no solution. They just invest money. BB needs a new vision.
Hopefully it won't end up being swallowed by one of the big boys (Google, Apple, Samsung, M$). We need balance in the Force.

How awesome would technical leadership (even open sourcing) with Canonical be?! Then those pension fund $ might be handy!

Right now the only company I can see really needing blackberry is MS

Make Blackberry phones to run the Firefox OS, if they're capable :)

There's a gap for when BB finally dies. Add life to your handset. Can they even be hacked and flashed?

Ja, but they are already married to Nokia. BB cannot add much value or resources, can it?

Why?BB10 is a great platform it just needs more apps which it is getting slowly, the biggest problem for Blackberry is what has always been their weak link, poor hardware. When they had BIS it was easy to get way with it.

I would have thought that after removing their BIS advantage they would start making proper competitive handsets like the android big boys with HD screens, quad core cpu etc, instead they thought they could go the Apple route with less build quality and a fraction of the apps. Its easy to see why they wont beat Apple/big android boys with that thinking.

This is sad news. I was at the launch of BB10; I've been following the progress of the new BB devices. And now this? When you get the news directly from BB themselves, you get the impression that they were/are on track to recover. So news items like this surprise me. Lol! From BB you'll hear things like, "BB10 smartphones sold out in UK stores" or "so much demand for the Q10 that supply is running short". Articles like these make me realise it was all lies. The BB ship is indeed going to sink.
In markets like Africa, Asia and middle east, BIS was a great selling point. Now the new BB10 no longer offers it, and they are more expensive than Android devices (first time I saw the price of Q10 I nearly fell off my chair! I wondered if people were really going to spend more than a Galaxy S4 or Nokia Lumia for a physical kb?). The Q5 is a flop. Galaxy or HTC Mini, or the lower end Lumias are better options.
This saddens me as I hoped Android, WP and iOS would get more competition...
