Blackberry GPS and Maps

Your other option would be to buy a stand alone gps receiver which connects to your handset via bluetooth, you will then need to purchase garmin for your berry, its about R550 per annum and then you will have true gps. If you don't want garmin you can always use google maps or bbmaps but neither is very useful and don't provide turn by turn directions.

The BB supports external GPS, but i am not sure if garmin will work (appworld wont let you buy it if it wont) as the 8520 without GPS would technically be an unsupported device. You would have to contact garmin to see if you can buy it direct and if they can confirm it will work.

Vodafone satnav is NOT compatible with, probably because of the no GPS and as the site detects your handset version its unlikely you will be able to download that, also the license is linked tot he PIN i think so you would need to buy that anyway and no idea what the price is.

So to summarize, spend about 4k on a new much better phone with free gps or about 2k on an external gps with software for your current not so great phone and have the unit essentially be useless when you do upgrade unless you opt for a gps-less device.

And unlike the garmap for mtn...vodafone satnav uses bis to download its maps, so no extra data charges. That is if the post further up by inus is true. If u set ure apn to the blackbery apn in tcp settings, then even garmap should use bis I think

I never paid to use garmap, it also downloads its maps through BIS. It was just the first month or so back in 2009 when it came out that it didn't use BIS or am I wrong?
 
Nope no activation code.. If I go into settings in garmap it says I have 60 day trial.
