So went to the Blackberry Jam yesterday and the only real thing that I learnt is that I will be now supporting IPad only apps. Maybe Android too.
I have never seen such a concentration of BB play books in such an area and I felt a bit out actually using my iPad. Could i have seen the only users of bb play books in South Africa?
The ideas at the quick challenge? Well a Xhosa Zulu translator using cards, etc? Yip you already get that called Utalk Xhosa or Utalk Zulu. A guy that triest to put topographic maps on his bb with hiking routes? Because you don't actually get that? Has he heard of the garmin oregan? I guess he ain't a serious hiker as who hikes with bb maps?
The only winning idea which I thought was actually brilliant was by one guy that suggested you get an app that actually lists you specials from different shops when you enter shops and malls. And it lost? For anyone that actually goes shopping with their family in these pricey times knows that it would actually be a huge success. Look at the popularity of groupon.
So at the end we got shown a lot of things that will work on iPads and iPhones too. But there was no real innovation. The world is moving into an area where near field communication is going to be the driving force behind shopping and although bb seems to be vaguely into innovation, clearly they are not. A lot was about showing how you can adapt your app to their device and not create innovative new apps.
At least the food were good
