Blackberry on its way out?

Anyone know where I can get a 8110 or 8100 - want to get it on topup contract or cash. Vodaworld doesnt want to sell me anything other than the 8520. Is BB on it's way out?
I just got the same confirmation from Cellucity - that the 8110 and 8100 are not avaialble anymore - only the 8520 is available.

Those phones are grossly outdated. Of all available models the 8520 is the smallest. Although the new Blackberry Pearl should be released in about 2 or 3 months time if you're willing to wait. I really wouldn't consider any of the older Blackberrys you'll feel very left out feature wise.

Features are nothing compared to having a brick of a phone IMO. I want a phone with BB messenger. Even if the pearls are 'available' later, both vodaworld and cellucity confirmed that the other items in their current brochures are not available - only the 8520. That bugs me somewhat - spares will be scarce and repairs will take forever or will be denied when they cant get spares (water damage excuses etc ala sony ericcsson).

No-one is taking them seriously by the looks and that makes me nervous to buy.

Why would one want an 8110 over an 8520? By current standards, they're very limited.
 
Perhaps try MTN they always replace Blackberry's (but take up to 6 weeks to do so depending on availability). but again don't go for the older ones. I would hardly describe by Bold 9000 as a brick and it's much bigger than the 8520.

You used a incorrect heading.You heading should have been "Looking for BlackBerry 8100/8110".

Blackberry is not on its way out.Go to any store and ask the sales consultant what are your top selling phones.You will be surprise to hear that all the BBerries will be in the top 10.

Blackberry phones are swoped out if theres a fault.It takes about a month with Vodacom

I know of some stores that used to sell about 3 Blackberries in a month but now the same store sell about 30 BB8520.This is only one model and what about the rest.And the sales figures are higher ON BB than other manufactures for some stores
 
Yes, I can confirm that the BB 8520 is a massive seller in our stores. I process their stock orders every week, and the popularity is astounding. My sister uses one and loves it. She moved to the 8520 from the 8310. Also recently converted a close friend of mine to the 8520 from Nokia, and he is loving it to bits. I think this is a phone I can recommend with confidence.

And yes, Vodacare do tend to swop Blackberries out if the fault is covered by the warranty and if it is not software related. If it is software related, then they will simply upgrade your software.

Yeah, what about the rest, so far I can't find a store who will sell anything but the 8520. And I want a normal sized phone with BB messenger capabilities... apparently it doesn't exist in our country outside of dodgy online auctions.
 
Next time give the heading some thought yoh. I have a 8520 and is extremely happy with it. No 3G but endge works fine. After my IPhone its a breath of fresh air.

What other models do you sell? Do you keep stock of other models? What would an 8520 sell for cash?

Good grief people - I gave it plenty thought an I posted a question in the heading so answer it if you like but don't ask me to change it lol. I can assure you and the blackberry sellers that that is the impression I have got over the last two months after trying to find anything but an 8520 in stock anywhere... in my books that means that BB is being marginalised. I can get a million formats of any other brands but only one BB? Not much choice there. Perhaps the 8520 is such a good seller cos it's the only one available - anyone thought of that?
 
BB only really make sense in a business context imo. i.e. If the company has their own BB server and all the infrastructure is geared towards it.

For personal use I'd rather go with one of the nokia smartphones.

We sell the following models, as per the Vodacom Service Provider Company list:
Blackberry 8520 Red & Black @ R3200.00 per unit including VAT @ 14%
Blackberry 8900
Blackberry 9520 Storm 2
Blackberry 9700 Bold 2
 
I strongly disagree. I use my Blackberry for personal use only. BIS is perfect for me as I do a lot of browsing and communicate with everyone via e-mail. I wouldn't consider one of those boring Nokia's for anything other than a camera thanks.

MrsBBL why not just get another phone obviously Blackberry doesn't meet your needs just live without bb messenger.
 
I am on BIS MTN prepaid R60/m for that I get unlimited internet on the phone. I can also like multiple email accounts to my BB if that's not good for personal & busines I don't know anymore. Older models of the BB are not regulary availble cause nobody wants to stock outdated crap. GSM arena has only 1 model listed after the June 2009 release of the 8520. I have never been a great fan of Nokia's rather opt for the SoneEricsson smartphone IMO.

Eh? I got a 9700 no problem, and I don't think the 8900s or 9000s are unavailable either (though why anyone would bother with those if the 8520 and 9700 are around escapes me).
