BlackBerry Priv

Hi

Mine is arriving tomorrow. Anyone managed to secure a screen protector and back cover?

I`m still looking. The only ones I found is online at Orange and Takealot. In the mean time I`m using a little sock like carry bag.

I bought 1 on Ebay on 23 March 2016 for R72.72 with free shipping estimated delivery April 17 - May 16. It did not arrive yet.

I want this one with the Smart Flip cover. But now with the Marshmallow update my battery life is insane (8am-9pm fair use and battery is at 76%) so not really needing the battery saving sleep mode feature.

Ditching the Samsung? Think it was a Samsung... Drop me details if you're selling - I bought two phones from you if I recall correctly :D

Overall - comments on the phone?

This is a tricky question for me as my primary device has never been an Iphone or Sx Galaxy. In my opinion these 2 devices are fun devices and it seems everybody has one. My devices are not used for fun.

I have been using the Priv for 3 months now and not comparing it to anything else, I would say the device is the best of both worlds. Blackberry + Android. I had the Z30 previously and prefer the device running Android Marshmallow instead of BB OS10 although I miss features like Blackberry Blend, that is basically all I`m missing.

Performance is good. Battery dropped to about 72% after 12 hours of normal use.

My pouch that cost R72 on Ebay arrived today from China. It is meant to be a temporary solution until the OEM is available here.

From my perspective: It brings the best of BlackBerry to Android. Keyboard, Hub, etc. Keyboard is just better than anything else. I'm happy with the hardware - looks good, it's durable, and performance and battery life is good. On the downside: as an OS, Andoid is simply not as good as BB10. It doesn't multitask nearly as well, it's not as stable, and there's a lot built in to BB10 that you have to get apps for on Android. I miss the wide screen of the Passport, the browser "reader mode" (OK, Firefox has that, but Chrome doesn't), the Hub integration, and the auto resize on email messages if you pinch. BB10's included apps were better, and the gesture-based interface was clearly superior.

Samsung Note 4 snatched out of my hands yesterday whilst stationary in traffic and looking at Waze (for once I was actually the "passenger"). Had a BB Torch 9800 years ago. Loved it but then moved to Android. Would love to go back to BB but the pricing on this unit and some of the reviews don't make a very compelling case?

You have to wonder if they actually have a marketing team, because their devices are great, but the marketing strategies seem completely off. I think they're still trying corporate selling methods, not consumer, or targeting strange aspects. For example, people who have heard the Priv radio ads seem fixated on the "up to 2TB" of storage (as if there are 2TB SD cards yet), rather that the many other compelling features.

Pricing may be coming down, judging from US pricing, and some providers have decent contract pricing. As for the device - still happy with mine, and some improvements with Marshmallow. Something that's really gratifying too: compared to other Android devices, the Priv gets regular updates with decent new features.

Now at 549 on Vodacom Smart S ... still coming down ...

@Claymore. Thanks, that's encouraging. What would you pay cash for a 2nd hand unit, apparently 'unused'?

Hard to say. I'm a bit of an impulse buyer, and it would depend on how much I wanted it...

And I got one. On MTN.

Hi there, have any of you sourced more cases and screen protectors? Got it Friday but not finding any (especially the BBC sliding one), it screen protectors; if I don't find one soon I'll be forced to cut my own!

I`m still using the case I got from Ebay. There are a few on bid or buy and also glass screen protectors.
