BlackBerry Priv

Anyone got the January 2016 Update yet? Seems that this update is quite important indeed.

Still loving my Priv - such an underrated but brilliant phone.

Also no update here yet (just checked on January 16, 08:19).

Will do ... Hope its not too long or that they start slacking with the updates now.

Bonus would be Nougat update, but that is really wishful thinking or a very long wait! LOL

BlackBerry is not slacking, they had the January 5 update rolling out on January 3 (two days early!) to their non-carrier devices.

We're waiting now for either the local carriers (if the android documentation can be believed) or something else altogether.

Agreed on the Nougat. Marshmallow for the PRIV was apparently rolled out about 6 months after Google MM release. I'm crossing my fingers for a repeat...

I agree they not slacking (overseas)

Hoping the local carriers get their act together, since I have not received the Jan 5 update yet ... anyone got it so far (who's not unlocked)?
 
Got it. Awesome. Anything specific changes anyone can see? I cannot notice anything different.

Oh, when will all the BB apps get updated on the Play Store?

How do you know on which dates the updates come in? Do you have inside information from BlackBerry or from the SA carriers, or are you just really fast on getting the updates on your own phones?

If you could help me with some more info, I would like to write it up in a short blog post as a follow-up to my previous (quite well-read) post on the state of Android security in 2016: https://cpbotha.net/2016/11/27/android-security-in-2016-is-a-mess/

(as far as I understood, android updates go from google to the device manufacturers to the specific carriers and then back to google, but due to your posts, it looks like the SA carrier phones all get it at the same time?)

I been using Android powered BlackBerry smartphones since launch.Generally the updates are sent to devices in the 1st week of the month .I think the delay in the last two months was due to it being holiday season .

I do work with BlackBerry but not employed by them .

I do liaise with the BlackBerry community online so basically that's how I know when things drop.

I'm also a beta tester for BlackBerry for many years which anyone can join at www.blackberry.com/beta

The security patch update are sent to beta users a week prior to the new month .

I do get stuff from BlackBerry before announcements but it's under NDA.

Hi Tahir

I am very interested in becoming a tester as well, however, I have not done it before. I am very good at tech and testing especially phones etc.

Any advice on how to get on board?
 
No Feb patch for me just yet.

Is it only me that's disappointed with the camera? I expected a lot more from it to be honest... I don't think it can even compare with an iPhone 5S and Samsung S5, let alone other phones released at the time the Priv was launched
 
Not sure if anyone else noticed but there is quite a few Blackberry app that has new updates in the Play Store.

Best news... Dark theme for hub is finally here, and it looks great!
