BlackBerry problems explained

3G? My Torch drops 3G connectivity, while my iPhone right next to it is doing just fine. Both on Vodacom, contracts no less. Also, my BB has always fallen back to GPRS/EDGE when losing 3G, not just lost connectivity altogether.

It is high time we hold Vodacom responsible, thank god I signed my contract on 1 April.
So why sign a contract with them if you are so unhappy with their service?By all means hold Vodacom accountable but perhaps you should take responsibility for the choices you make too.

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard  You pay for a service on contract or not and you should get what you pay for . I was with MTN then went across to Vodacom on month to month due to MTN and their billing issues. My BB then broke and I needed a new one and didn't feel like forking out R6000-00 or so on a new one.

Its faster to chisel information on granite slabs with stencils and wind-erosion, hand delivered, than surfing the web with Vodacom on my Torch 9800 in Centurion.
Edge, 3G whatever it constantly sucks. Not impressed.

Same problem in same area on Bold 9700.

How long were you with Vodacom before signing the contract?

From a Vodacom Side:

you guys can phone 082155 and speak to Advanced Data Solutions, or if your in the western cape(my region) u can pm me with BB issues. (there are known issues with certain simcards and blackberry devices) If your BIS or BES / Signal is dropping alot pm your pin no. & last 7digits that are bold on the simcard @ the bottom and i can check on the blackberry backend.

All of a sudden, I'm in a area that cannot handle data communication. This hasn't been a problem since I got my BB last year.

Hatfield Pretoria, BB 8520, Vodacom.

I never quite got the reason for buying an expensive 3G capable phone that must be set to run on 2G, or is that what vodacom call their backward compatible network?

Don't worry guys, when you can only afford a POS 2G phone in 10 years, we'll be here for you.

I was looking to get a blackberry next week but now I'm concerned. The unlimited internet browsing was a big drawcard for me, I was going to abuse that R60 BIS service by surfing the net all day. Now I'm not to sure it'll be worth it. iPhone was my second option but it's flippin' expensive. Dammit!

Read the fine print on BIS, browsing on Blackberry is free on BIS. When BIS goes down, which is common on Cell C, you get billed at standard data rates. Yes, I got charged R117 wap charges even though I had BIS so my total internet cost was R177... on a 8520 which has EDGE. For the same price, I could have got 1.75 GB on an android

yes, BIS in Knysna sucks as well, "cannot connect to internet" a lot on my new Torch

Also getting "cannot connect" problem a lot lately.Maybe I must buy a sim from another network and try that.

Also having constant problems, on Vodacom Prepaid with a Torch. My BBM used to be fast - messages went through quickly. Now they take ages to go, if they go at all.
I get disconnected from BIS at times. Other times I am unable to browse the web despite having full signal and BIS active.
Most recently, and most irritatingly, I get kicked off the Vodacom network about twice a day for several days at a time, resulting in me being unable to make or receive calls, sms or check my balance. It gives me a vague "Supplementary Service Error: General Error" message. I have to reboot to get reconnected. All this while my BIS is working fine - I can send and receive BBMs. Also recently - during those periods that i'm disconnected, airtime vanishes off my phone. A cent or so every 5 minutes, and the total i've lost so far is only in the region of R1.50, but it drives me nuts.

I have the latest OS. I've updated everything I can think of. I have all the service books necessary.

Grrr.

What is the solution to this problem??
