Blackberry profits up

The biggest drawcard is the BIS at R59.00 which allows for unlimited email and on device browsing.

Without BIS the Blackberry phones are overpriced simple phone/sms devices.

Given the insane prices we pay for Data OOB and even in Bundle rates we have the perfect conditions for Blackberry to take off in SA in a big way.

Ask any iPhone user how much data they go through in a month and what it costs compared to the same usage on a Blackberry.

If Data rates were to drop drastically to a more affordable level then the Blackberry attraction may not be as great.

Compare the features on the Motorolla Droid with the Storm 2.

I still took the Storm 2 because of the Data usage allowed.

Never having to concern myself about going to be charged OOB rates was the deal maker for me.

With cheaper Data rates the Droid for me, would win hands down :D

slightly OT.... is anyone stocking the droid yet?

You're talking about here in SA which is probably only a small share of their global market. In most other countries they enjoy much more affordable data rates yet RIM seems to be doing well.

True, but they do not hold majority market share, Apple right now pwns this.

I can only speak from an SA perspective, thus my comment that, given our Bandwidth Cash Cow situation, Blackberry is an attractive option at R59.00 per month.

Seen how the uptake of the Blackberry for the masses - 8520, literally brought the VC Bis to its knees not so long ago :erm:

The new kids on the block like the Android revolution are offering features that appeal at more affordable prices.

I am still sold on the Blackberry concept, but the motivation has been purely financial.

Spending R59.00 per month instead of +/- R500.00 on Data Bundles makes sense, or should that be cents :D

I still took the Storm 2....

Hi

I'm thinking of upgrading....How do u find this phone....the storm 1 was apparently terrible.
Any feedback is appreciated :D

Most people I work with totally love their Blackberrys and it's not the data charges because the company pays for that. One of the users recently switched from a Bold 8310 to a N97 and after a week she switched back to the bold.

I think they are getting something right with the simplicity and use ability of the software.

Will let you know as soon as I can get my hands on it, been promised delivery on Monday 20 December by Couriers.

@Amida - Don't get me wrong, I am sold on the BlackBerry concept and think the phones are great with huge potential in the SA market, I even succumbed to the BlackBerry for the masses 8520 :)
