Blackberry Protect NOW AVAILABLE

Are you sure? I read on Crackberry that it does and people were complaining about it, when you try locate the phone, it sends an e mail and/or sms to your phone which defeats the object

No, that's smrtguard, it sends an email do the device to trigger the trace, the email is deleted imediately but there is still the audible alert.

BBP goes directly through the push network using ur PIN, there are no indications what so ever.

The stupidity of BBP is that it does not work without a BIS sim and if you change sims it de-registers BBP on the handset and shows a message on screen that BBP needs to be re-activated.

So in the event your phone gets stolen, BBP becomes totally useless once they remove your sim, which would b immediately. Then again without a BIS sim the email from SG would never arrive either, so far all apps that trace your phone require the thief to be an idiot and leave ur sim in the phone and the phone on. I had a paid sub with SG for 6 months so I have personal experience with it and the new BBP.

Sorry for revive..

Not all criminals remove the sim card immediately. GF's torch was pick pocketed and they kept the phone on for a good 5 hours or so before we black listed the phone. They even read the BBMs I was sending the phone before they deleted all BBM contacts.

Kicking myself for not installing BB protect.

Would have been able to track it from the website :(.

Blackberry Project is the best ever, however, it would be a lot more useful if there was a mobile web portal, so you can use a friends phone in case yours is stolen/lost and not a computer

also would help if it was not completely dependant on bis and did not notify you when you change sim cards and also require re-activation with this new sim.

basically its only useful if your thief is a complete moron, mylookout is far superior, bbp is less than a joke in comparison.
