BlackBerry speed tests

I know....I also use a Blackberry. As soon As VD has found out what exactly is causing this and what the solution is and when the solution will be implemented then he will report back. Lets give him a chance to get all info. I think its better for him to have all relevant info when reporting back as apposed to a half hearted one. :-)

I agree, but I was just concerned that we have become so accustomed to an inferior Blackberry internet service that we regard a 100% improvement as something great. As my wife always say: 100% of 0 is still 0.

The Blackberry service is not limited to EDGE. My Blackberry Storm often/mostly indicate a signal availability of 3G/HSDPA. When using it as a modem I am able to reach download speeds of at least 2 000 Kbits/s.

When using it as a modem, it is not going through the blackberry bis service.

I know, my point is the Blackberry service and the normal Vodacom data service should be comparable in terms of speed when using the same handset.

Maybe BIS is going over Seacom as trial runs?

Different location, different base station:

I dont think so - when you're using the blackberry apn all data roundtrips via RIMs European servers.

But that doesn't mean its acceptable for the speed to be a small fraction of the Vodacom apn speeds.

So I called 155 and spoke to the Vodacom Blackberry department, what a waste of time! Firstly they are unwilling to even acknowledge there is a problem, saying it is the first they have heard of it. I guess I should of known better. So i was instructed to head down to the vodacare in Centurion for them to check my phone before they can complain to RIM.

So off i went, spoke to the stores 'Blackberry Specialist', ha ha, what a joke. He also has a Storm, said he has the same problem and there is nothing I can do, I just need to wait for the scheduled system upgrade which he has no idea when it has been scheduled for. As for sending a complaint to RIM, apparently I need to do that directly, WTF!

According to this guy, in his region they are pushing out 300 new Blackberries a day. About 180 a month through the Centurion store. What they are doing is closing ports for browsing and using them to push emails, this is why our browsing speeds are sh*t but our emails are still coming through relatively smoothly.

I also tried the 155 helpdesk.
They said they arent aware of any issues. I eventually managed to have them log a call with the advanced data call centre.
Got a call back just before 5 yesterday where the guy said they are aware of the issue but they dont have a ETA for the fix yet.
At least I managed to get a reference number out of them for once.
Im hoping this reference along with the acknowledgement (I'm just gonna use the refund for 3 months) that the service was down a very short while ago is a strong enough argument that Vodacom can't deliver on their half of the contract.
I've been paying for the contract every month but they havent been delivering.
Refunding the blackberry part of it only is useless.
If I had known I couldn't get data I would have gotten another phone with a decent data bundle.

The whole argument that Vodacom use saying its because it has to get to europe 1st is crap anyway. MTN also work the same way and they don't have any issues.
It's just pathetic planning from Vodacom.

I never said it was acceptable.

Fortunately - for all of us - they're out of stock for the 8520 atm so I'll be transferring the missus to MTN and their similarly priced offering. No point putting up with another two years of excuses.

Interesting .....
I gather they have much less subscribers.

My complaint on Hellopeter got the standard "bring your handset in for a check to your nearest vodacare centre" response.

It was almost useable over the weekend (only had the occasional time out).
But today everything seems to be back to normal. All the pages I try and browse to time out.

In JHB at the moment - browsing working with no problems, a bit slow though.

totally unusable today, all pages time out (including speedtest)

So what did vodacom do? "Upgrade" the link so that they could take on more subscribers and kill the service again?

Time to cancel my contract - this isn't a business service at all, just a waste of time and money and a source of stress that i definitely don't need, thanks for nothing vodacom.

I'm also looking at cancelling my contract.
It really isn’t worth it.

Vodacom not acknowledging the problem isn't helping at all.
And just saying that they are aware of the problem and working on it is totally unacceptable.
Pathetic service from Vodacom.
