Hi

Seems no one else is able to assist me, and the people on the other end at customer support just give me the "no sorry" feedback.

Ftr: I am with Vodacom

I need to know from those of you who own Storm's, what version of firmware you are sitting on at the moment.

I have .78 which seems to be ancient compared to what the rest of the world has. I don't liek version chasing, but I have serious bugs, phone lockups, performance problems left and right, sms tones not working, and a huge list of other issues, which are all no doubt, software problems.

Vodacom doesn't seem to know when updates will be available to us, and the vodacom site downloads only lists up to the Bold (Storm is too new still?).

Be as it may, Ive dumped loads money into this device, and Into vodacom, and the least I could expect is a proper supply of the latest f/w updates as RIM makes it available.

ANy idea where I can the updates, if they are available, and lastly, is it mandatory to use the VODACOM SA provided ones or can we use some (?!) other version.

Thanks in advance for any feedback :o

Go over to www.crackberry.com

Check on their forums, the guys are running at this stage on Official OS of .113 for the Storm.
Here is the direct link to the newest OS for the Storm.

Don't worry you can download other OS from other providers just with a added step in installing the software. And you can downgrade at anytime if you don't like the OS installed. (When you install the software on your PC you just delete the vendor.xml and you are set to go.)

Read the following thread in the correct procedure of upgrading/downgrading of OS.
It will spare you alot of hassles.

I have upgraded my BB Bold many times with new OS which can give you improved battery life, memory space and even better radio reception.

If you have any question feel free to PM me.

mbvdl, I'm using 4.7.0.78. It's fine for me, but a colleague who also has the Storm has been complaining of reboots.

Also on .78 at the moment. I am 99% sure we are on the same official version (.78) as Vodafone UK, therefore, we should be able to install a higher (official) version safely once it becomes available. However, I think it would be safer if Vodacom3G comments on this.

My main problem with the Storm is its poor signal reception. It often indicates no signal or very weak gprs reception when other phones indicate strong 3G or HSDPA reception, in which case it wouldn't connect to the Internet. I have to reset the phone at least twice a day, mostly to fix these reception problems.

Ah great news, thanks guys.
Im getting more reliable info from here than Vodashops

I appreciate the link, Im going to download it and start researching. According to the guy at Tygervalley Vodacom 3G shop, the OTA install will always have the latest (somehow I doubt this)...

For the record, I am totally patient with the issues, as this is BB's first of a kind, but if there are fixes, I need them.

1. SMS/Mail alerts never sound
2. Occasionally, unholstering it, causes a reboot
3. Laggy menu's (BB knows this, and have fixed it)
4. Latent accelerometer response (should also be fixed).

Otherwise I am happy.

Will keep you posted if I screw it up.

I am running .78 aswell, i have the same problems as you guys but my screen goes snowy sometimes and have to reboot. Signal is really crap. But still like the phone.

Has anyone uploaded the latest os software feedback please .

Im still pondering if I should. Whats the latest version available to you on the OTA update feature?
I discovered a new bug on .78, trying to answer the phone using the touchpad Green phone doesnt work :) This isnt of major concern (the hard button is right next to it), but an annoying one nevertheless.

I have downloaded .113 last night, and I am contemplating the risks etc. Maybe I will do it tonight?
Either way, sounds like RIM is working hard on updates, rumours of .240 and up are already going around.

Don't think I am going to wait for vodaslug to release and approve updates, in the meantime I not using alot of useful features in my device, because I paid them to do nothing about it.

Don't ponder, if you have any problems just revert back to the old OS. You will not regret upgrading.

One question regarding this.
It says, before the upgrade starts, that the phone will need to be activated "wirelessly" for normla functionality to work (like phoning and messaging). What does this mean?

Should I wait until my BIS is activated then, or can I go for it?

Ok nvm :D
I have done a complete wipe of my 9500, installed .113 and am now back in business. Faster menus, faster tilt action, the green phone button onscreen works, sms alerts work fine, and i got to custom optimize the OS before installing... Nifty

Now give it a week to see what NEW bugs are in here lol

good one let me know how it goes before i do mine.
can you get the vibrating function to ring through your whole ringtone like a nokia etc as i seem to miss most calls while driving cause cant hear the blady thing?

Well,
Im having a ball. No complaints so far.
Been a few days now, no freezes, no reboots.
My memory is still at around 37MB, peaked at 43 MB last night so leakage is minimal
I really have NO complaints. The typing on the keyboard feels better, but im not sure why, my alerts work fine.
Id say go for it, but follow the advanced procedure (wipe included).
It took me around 30 minutes, was a bit scary when the desktop manager wouldnt connect to my storm, but then I read about using apploader in the RIM program files directory ;)

Glad to hear it's working for you.

.113 is not yet certified due to a 'reset-loop' problem in the build. But obviously you've not seen this.

What is the latest firmware for the storm? When are the wireless updates gonna be available?

When Vodacom will be done testing and fixing no one knows...
Im still on .113 and Im fairly happy. .122 is out and I think .132 is out now too in the states... Im reluctant to upgrade, as .113 is treating me well, Id rather not introduce new problems now.

The upgrade mood is coming on though, maybe soon :)
