Blackberry Storm 9520 Tips Tricks & Apps Thread

Been using 436 as well, and haven't had any drop call issues since I upgraded.

Leaked OS becomes official when RIM officially releases, SP then makes downloads available.

When installing and running leaked OS you on your own as SP will not provide support for issues, neither can I, so there, now I have told you so :D

Firmware or OS's only become official if a cellphone carrier releases it. Vodacom and Mtn only provide support for os's that they released. Since I have my storm (April 2009) vodacom has only released one firmware update, which is pathetic if you ask me. By the time they acknowledge os 5 my handset will be out of warranty.

I got the phone

Well, I braved it & got the phone.....& I'm impressed :D

But.....I had 1 dropped call in 24 hours...:(
Other issue is that sometimes the green send button feels "stiff".

Don't u guys think that the carriers only get new OS updates if enough people phone them with issues.
If everyone installs the "leaked" OS, then the carrier wont bother getting an update.

I will call & complain to MTN  but in the meantime i need some leaked OS.

So which is better 402 or 436?

How do I go about downloading & installing etc.

Also got the sticky green send button - but it changes as you are in dif apps - so it is a software issue. Looking for 436 to load

Where could I download a decent version of 436 firmware? I would be keen to try it!

Everything works on it right? BBM and etc?

Not sure if such links may be posted here, but w1tw0lf has a forum where he tracks the new leaks at blackberry za net, or try bbleaks, or crackberry.

436 is solid, battery life is the best, the send / end key issue is sorted, no dropped calls, I am using it, go figure ;)

Thanks for the link. I am now also using .436 and it's quite a bit snappier than what was on it! :)

Now if only I could find a nice "Today" theme.

why does Blackberry.com not even have the 9520 on its list of phones?

where can one download updates for the Vodacom release?
If i download the UK version, does it have any impact on local services and BES?

so you download the 124mb file, run it and isntall it and then delete the vendor.xml before connecting the BBS2 to the USB cable and allowing the desktop mgr to upgrade the firmware? just to confirm :)

kewl, all working like a bomb.

where can one get a theme maker? where you can change the images and logos and all that?

Hi all.

Im new to the forum and got my first bb Last week (Strom 2) on MTN. I've been reading a lot on this upgrade to UK's latest OS, but I'm struggling to get it installed. I'm not that clued up BB as yet...

I downloaded version .436 as described and followed the "extended" installation guide for dummies (I guess) but no success. My BB still stays with OS .320

Any help from successful installers would be much appreciated!

My "about" screen on my bb states: v5.0.0.320 (platform 4.2.0.124)

Also had a lot of problems with dropped calls! Almost every single call was dropped after approx 20 secs. This seems to be resolved after an auto update when the phone was connected to the desktop manager for the first time and a battery pull. No dropped calls since.

Thanks guys!

Neill.

Auto update to 436

So i get this email from RIM (dont remember where I registered it)...they say there is an update for my fone.
It sends u to a link at blackberry.com/update.

When u update it opens up the apploader application & voila, the fone is updated to .436.

I am on MTN

Really, I dont see any changes. Someone mentioned that the new firmware highlights the letters as u type but I dont have this.

Anyone with the same experience?

I didn't get the mail, but my Storm 2 was updated automatically when I connected it to BBDM. I also do not have highlighted letters.

The other thing is that, after the upgrade, Nimbuzz does not want to connect/sign in!! I get an error message that says I must check the device network configuration....

Any advice?
