Ok so im looking at the blackberry contracts on the voda site and it says it includes unlimited email and unlimited on device browsing. now, how exactly does this work? is it one of those "unlimited up to 20mb" things or truly unlimited? and what if i go to a site that needs me to download something to view it like a java update or something? do i get charged for a download there or whats the story?

Completely unlimited. But it can only be data that "stays" on the phone, i.e. you cannot use this to connect your BB as a modem to you PC and then download the internet.

wicked. if only the Pearl and Curve models did 3G. hmm. will need to look into this BB thing further.

Mainly use data for mail on my current phone (E70) but I end up using about 50MB on just checking forums per month while waiting for stuff to compile etc. so it would be nice to have the option of browsing and internet radio.

V3G, Is it possible to use a non BB phone with the BB contracts or does it have to be a BB?

We have an 8310 with the Blackberry Talk package. Also mentions the unlimited on device browsing and stuff. Not too useful in my opinion though.
I hate the GPS too. If you go off route it doesn't recalculate a new route or anything...

just trying to figure out how they are offering what sounds like an uncapped data package at such a low price. Ok admittedly its gprs/edge only but still.

Still, If I can use a non BB phone with that contract it would be ideal for me. would mean i could have my mail permanently on as opposed to manually checking every 30 minutes which is a pain. My only other route is to go for a data card but that doesnt sort out my cell needs.

Currently with MTN and due for an upgrade, but with these new style contracts of theirs I end up spending a LOT more just to retain the same as I have now. As such Im a bit peeved with them. Cell C and Virgin aren't even in the running as such the only other option i have is to go with Voda.

Now if I go for the BB100 thing with a non BB phone that means I get the best of all worlds.

it's not completely unlimited - there are file size limits - you can't generally download a file bigger then 15mb (in my experience) so while browsing is unlimited, downloads are not. (you can download as many 15mb files as you want, but no single file bigger)

also i've never gotten streaming to work

Yes, there's a limit per file and streaming is redirected through the internet apn so you'll pay for streaming.

Mind informing us how this streaming being redirected to the internet apn works? (just so some of us clever folks can figure out a way around it of course :p)

I recently looked into this as well. The responses I got back from senior people at Vodacom was that using a non-BB unit on the BB service you can get the email service to work (if your phone type supports the necessary software).
HOWEVER you will NOT get the unlimited browsing functionality. This ONLY applies to BB phones. In my case this meant it didn't work for me because I don't do enough emailing on my phone to justify the cost of the service, whereas if it had included both it would have been great.

Yes, my understanding is that Nokia, for example, is going to drop the BB connect product altogether.

I would think the best way to get a Blackberry is to get a Blackberry.

It'll be part of the configuration that's downloaded to the device. The only way to avoid it, is to not use streaming services. I see my Storm pops up a warning when I access something like Youtube.
