Hey all,

Ok i have a question. This lady i know has a blackberry 8707. she just moved back from the UK and was on Orange. Ok now she is using Vodacom here and wants to use the R69 Blackberry service (BB APN). However her phone doesn’t have the settings for Vodacom. 155 told her she will be unable to use this phone for bb service as they can't send her settings and they are unable to give her manual settings?

However if i could get the manual settings i could place them in the phone for her and test it out for a month and see if it works.

But if she doesn't get it working it’s ok, she will go to MTN as they have given their BB settings and it works.

But she doesn't really want to use MTN she prefers Vodacom.

Thanks

If i'm not mistaken, if she's on the Voda network and the BB Service is enabled, the BB Service Books should be pushed down to the device automatically.

No it doesn't work on Vodacom when using the Internet APN she still gets charged for everything! And she has BB activated. But on MTN you have to change the APN to "myBB" then it works on MTN.

Not to worry she said she will just use MTN.

is she using the blackberry.apn or internet.apn?

Did she get the service books when she registered for the blackberry service?

On Vodacom it is like pulling teeth as i said in the first post. Vodacom are unable to give me the darn Balckberry APN???

Wat is it? bb, Blackberry, Balckberry.za, etc i have no idea....

Yes she got the service books. but they do not work with the internet APN.

You type it in then.

As stated, you don't need to enter any settings for BlackBerry to work on the Vodacom network - if you have a BlackBerry enabled Vodacom SIM card in the device, the relevant service books are pushed to the handset.

But for your peace of mind, the BlackBerry APN is "blackberry.net" and the internet APN is "internet"

The main question is, does friend have a Vodacom Contract SIM, or an ordinary Prepaid SIM?

Not sure if this is relevant at all, but have you tried formatting the BB to a Vodafone/Vodacom firmware?

All firmware's are available here:-

http://www.vodacom.co.za/services/blackberry/downloads_handheld.jsp

I see those are older firmwares (4.1 for 8707), but at least it's still a Vodacom firmware. I'm sure you can find a 4.5 firmware for the 8707 somewhere around, if necessary. I just updated me 8700 from 4.1 to 4.5 and it works great.

Thanks nuyork didn't know that!

But however she is on contract Month-to-month but thank you kwmf the "blackberry.net" worked!!! that is all vodacom had to tell me!

regards
