Blackout backup is not foolproof

Eskom power is not a replacement for your private generator

Cape Town
Friday 09 February, 2007

Alex Erwin today announced that electricity supplied by Eskom is not a replacement for your private generator.

Eskom power is only to be used as a backup in case your generator fails and should not be used as the default power source.

Eskom will be subsidising the major retail outlets in the supplying of PBR (Pebble Bed Reactors) for the private consumer market. These should available from early June 2012 or later. In the mean time Eskom strongly requests those persons attending sporting events to carry 2KVA torch which can be used in the case of power failure.

The carrying of bolts is now promulgated as an illegal practise and perpetrators will be sentenced to random 4 hour periods of darkness.
