Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande has expressed concern over the continued disturbances at universities, which has resulted in the closure of some campuses.

Students at the Tshwane University of Technology's Soshanguve campuses were told to vacate their residences.

The university shut down its two Soshanguve campuses on Monday following weeks of violent protests. Students were given until Tuesday afternoon to leave.

Addressing media on Tuesday in Parliament at an economics cluster briefing, Nzimande said he was worried about what was happening at the two campuses.

The minister said they were engaging with management and other stakeholders to find solutions.

“We are really engaging them and asking them: why can’t they find a solution?”

He said universities should be at the halfway mark for the first semester already. Students were being sent home instead.

“We are really trying our best to make sure that those institutions are back to being functional.”

Nzimande said they welcomed any progress made in resolving the issues.

Trying to engage with them at this point is a waste of time, they aren't interested in solutions they are only looking for their own "struggle" to fight.
 
uh yeah I think pretty much everyone is concerned about +- all the varsities...and also about those supposedly in charge of running the show.

i feel pity for these kids, it seem that there is more than the issue of education but a crying out now.

There are protests and riots every year at TUT ... especially their Soshanguve Campus. ... and every year it is the same kuk. Just close the place down already . It's not as if the "qualifications" people get from there are even worth the paper they are written on anymore.
Sad... I completed my original engineering diploma back when it was Technikon Pretoria
 
"I'm so sad. I'm so mad. I'm so pissed. Our academic calendar is ruined," Promise Mtsweni, a fourth-year education student from Bronkhorstspruit, said on Tuesday.

She blamed the Student Representative Council for the university's decision to close the campuses.

"This is really heart breaking," said another student.

"We were on strike for four weeks, but nothing came out of the strike. Now, out of the blue, we are being told to go home."

Simple, because they cannot. Much like they cannot solve the drought relief, it's outside their abilities. Unless they offer to re-educate politicians and their cronies.

The real issue is an issue outside varsities and like, starting somewhere this year with guys not linked to varsities wearing red teletubbies uniforms and berets. Solve this issue and you solve the majority of the current varsity issues. The bulk can be solved by refraining from racism based politics which is currently so fashionable, using varsities and race as a political football.

Solve this for them and it will leave the minuscule smaller and manageable real varsity issues they can actually do something.
