Blatter: SA ready to host SWC

I read on news24 two weeks ago that they said it won't be ready now all of a sudden This showed up in the mail...

Johannesburg - South Africa is ready host the 2010 World Cup, FIFA president Joseph Blatter said on Saturday.

"I am proud - and South Africa can be proud - that the technical premises will be ready: There is no doubt about it," Blatter told South Africa's SABC 1 channel.

The head of football's ruling body said he had been overwhelmed by the welcome he had received from football fans and was looking forward to the main event next year.

"There was so much emotion at the opening ceremony. I couldn't speak, because when I started to speak, they (the fans) applauded. Even the critical European press said, Sepp Blatter has never been received as he was in South Africa."

Blatter also discussed the issue of half-empty stadiums at the Confederations Cup, promising that the problem would be addressed and that there would not be a repeat at the World Cup.

He also said he felt his support for holding international football's showpiece in Africa had now been justified, adding that his involvement in African football dated back to 1976.

"I am going to visit all the stadiums," said Blatter.

"My link to Africa was developing because I had the feeling, something can happen in Africa."

I read that they only finished the PE stadium two weeks ago?? what about the others?

No. Last time Germany were finishing the last stadium when the teams arrived!

No. Last time Germany were finishing the last stadium when the teams arrived!

That was only for the Confederations Cup where a venue was completed on the opening day.

he spoke of a stadium that they were still painting the night before the WC opening.

there was also a stadium were the roof cracked, rain poured in and argentina couldnt play on the right hand corner during the confed.

we will be ready before may then relaxe for a month

South Africa was also painting the day before the Confederations Cup at some venue.
Venue overlay is not always something you want to complete months before.

PE was dropped as FIFA preferred not to have a repeat of Germany 2005 where a venue was completed on the opening day. It was just not a risk worth taking.

Leaking Roof

Well I was at the Italy game last night and there's definitely work to be done (a lot of it) before 2010. Just a couple of things that were off:

(1) When we got to our seats (the el cheapo ones behind the goal posts), there was actually water leaking from the roof/tier above us and basically created a pool on one of the seats in front. Luckily the game wasn't sold out so if anyone had been assigned that seat, they could've just moved. I would've been seriously pissed if that was my seat and the game was sold out.
