Good day gents/ladies

I have a question as I am having trouble figuring it out on my own...

My son had his phone taken away because of whatsapp and all the trouble that caused, endlessly sitting on his phone talking to strange people about very strange things and basically doing nothing else even sneaking out at 01:00 in the morning to phone the whatsapp friends???

Now, I took his phone away but I know he runs it on his computer... so basically me taking the phone had little effect and short of ripping his head off I would like to block whatsapp traffic on my router

Then I can even hand his phone back as he will be screwed if he has no airtime as the home wifi will not allow whatsapp traffic

I am using a Belkin N100, if need be I will even buy a router that I can block that whatsapp on

Thanks in advance
Desperate father

He can't access whatsapp on the computer without his phone. Switch off the phone, he cant use whatsapp. The problem is something else.

This. It wont work if his phone is off.

Why does he have a smart phone to begin with?

Whats it to you?

And how do you run Whatsapp on pc?

https://web.whatsapp.com/

@op. Whatsapp is a symptom of a bigger problem I think, taking it away is just going to make him find other ways. How old is your son?

Wait. You take away Whatsapp cause his doing weird things but he will still have a computer with internet? If thats the case, you're in for quite the surprise buddy.

@SPIZZ

when I confiscated his phone I plugged it into a charger (not sure why) and locked it in my desk drawer with the cable running out...

So basically switch off his phone? or would you need to Delete it from the phone first?

Never thought I would be doing this as I always thought you should let them communicate with people... but he is so bloody sucked in that you can get NOTHING out of him... he will spend day after day after day on that F@king phone, he is stagnating as the only other thing he does is watch that beyond stupid Anime/manga/jap scrap ****

Ashamed that at almost 22 he still occupies himself with that childish junk

All the PC's are in the same room so that is why he still has PC/internet

weird things are not the problem... but I have heard some strange stuff from his mate that he is getting upto with some maybe to young girls.

Yeah. Wrt whatsapp, if the phone that is linked to the account is switched off, he can't use it on his pc.

Plenty of other ways to chat online through a pc though.

I have sent you a PM

I see www.netnanny.com is still around and has mobile plugins as well - not sure if anybody else has tried that recently? It's more to protect kids from things but might help you?

Taking stuff away never works. You must provide something equally appealing that can take its place. Sex comes to mind, especially when you are 22, at that time I don't think I thought of anything else, but then there were no mobile phones, no personal computers

Is he studying? If not, then a paying occupation might get his mind off things. One that makes him so tired that he sleeps 7 hours a night without interruption

The youngster (19) over the road from me sounds similar to your one. Not the slightest bit of ambition and a pain in the arse to his parents. He seemed to like animals so I got him a job with a horse-trainer in Philippi and he took to it. He had to be there at 5.30 in the morning and it was continuous physical work. The pay for the first 2 years was abysmal but he now assists the trainers. Even the other coloured staff get on with him.

Op just go to the security settings on the router/modem and block whattap .

@OP,

Eset does an antivirus,

but also

Eset Parental Control.
(try in beta before you buy)
Install on son's mobile devices (tablets included)
And install on at least one of your mobile devices.
The password is yours to know.
Child's Name and age is entered.
Child unable to install apps you block.
And any apps rated older than child's age will be blocked from installing, unless you unblock.
You can also limit gameplay time.
See his location,
login on the net you can see all his phone activity (including who he called, sms's and also whatsapp and other chats, without taking his phone to look.
You can review any already installed apps then approve or deny them.

LOL it even blocks websites he might try view.
('Bob, this website is not for us, please try another one')
And best of all he cannot uninstall the app without your password.

Seems to work well.
