Hi guys,

I have a naughty little niece who is spending here unproductively on sites such as friendster and facebook. It is exam time for her.

Hoe can I temporarily block those websites from being accessed in that specific computer, do I need specific software or is it done in IE?

I want a waterproof solution please that cannot be bypassed.

Please guys,

Rudi

Depends how technologically savvy she is. My friends wife was spending too much time on facebook at their office (they work together) so I suggested just adding an entry to the host file on her computer directing her to google. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file

Thanks. Yes it is a very basic way (I added 127.0.0.1 + the website address) to the hosts file.

Now I need to upload this file to their system, her mother is not computer literate at all. I have never tried remote desktop myself, can I send them a request to allow me to connect? Any ideas?

They are in Manila, Philippines so I expect the connection to be slow

If you are using a router block the sites in the router and then you could change back at a later stage

Can you skype? I'm pretty sure the latest version has built in desktop sharing which might take some of the hassle out of it.

Create a batch file with the following line and mail it to her. Then all she has to do is run it on her machine. Of course your niece may bypass this in 1 second....

echo facebook.com 127.0.0.1 >> C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
