Bloemfontein FTTH Thread

That's an impressive download!
Now my real struggle begins... I've got to cancel my DSL. Also I signed up with Telkom as my ISP waaaay back before Gmail was a thing (was it Hotmail then?) I've got to find out if I can somehow keep my Telkom email address.

I can assist you with the process. I too had to cancel my DSL earlier this year when we relocated from LHP and my DSL is sucessfully cancelled. Drop me a PM and I'll guide you through it.

@Praeses IAMUSER is correct. For most households 20mb will be more than enough (especially if its just you and your finance). We're already a family of 3. I suppose 40mb would've sufficed for us, but seeing that I'm heavily into IT I just couldn't resist and went for 100mb as it wasn't that much more expensive vs 40mb per month :)

Been checking this thread on and off the past few months since I moved out of a townhouse that had no internet besides wireless with Iclix to our own house and Iclix wasn't able to help anymore as they didn't have line of sight. I was really hoping we'd have the option of fibre, but ADSL is having to make do in the meantime.

Any ideas for a timeline for Bayswater? Many of the availability checkers have got Wilcox and Waverly road as fibre ready or planned, but I'm literally a street down and I don't know how many other people in the area have indicated interest for fibre - I've registered an interest anywhere that's been asking!

I'm glad that things are at least happening in this quite ole town of ours though

I've been waiting in Normandie street FOREVER!

My Fibre is live - now just to get CISP to respond to my ticket that they can start the process of getting me hooked up :)

If you have already applied via CISP's site, be sure to email the CISP connect team at [email protected] to speed things up. Responding to tickets can take longer, so just fire them a mail at that address to hurry the process along.

Had some issues - had to reprovision my ONT - but everything is finally working! :D I HAVE FIBRE!

Well done man, welcome to the fibre brotherhood!

Took a while for you to get hooked up, but glad you got sorted in the end. Hope you enjoy your 20mb line via Cool Ideas

Btw I was wondering - how's your international speeds on CISP with your fibre provider? Using speedtest.net I rarely get above 10Mbps to London and usually around 5 to New York. Local speeds are perfect @ 19.5Mbps. Wondering if CISP or Frogfoot is the issue.

Not too bad actually.

Keep in mind that different servers are going to give different results. Overall, I'm pretty happy with my international performance. As long as I can stream Twitch in source quality (which I can) then I'm happy with international performance. Netflix, Showmax and DSTV Now also working quite good.

I'm not saying that CISP is at fault, but you can always log a ticket and let them have a look at your routing. Frogfoot can also be at fault. Remember its a huge roll out for them in LHP and covering all their bases, there are bound to be a few teething issues here and there.

Thanks for the reply. I do have a ticket logged since Thursday, still waiting for a response. I doubt frogfoot is the issue since my local performance is perfect - only international is the issue, so most likely a CISP or their upstream provider's issue. I can't stream Twitch in Source quality. When I set it to auto, it keeps jumping between resolutions. If I set it to source, it buffers a whole lot. Quite frustrating!

Damn, that's rough and what a tough break for complexes that went with SADV. I'm glad that Frogfoot seem more reliable. Post back as soon as things start taking shape in your complex or as soon as you're online :)

The problem with the fibre across the highway to LHP affects frogfoot and sadv. From what I've heard SANRAL caused the first set of delays. Then once the go ahead was received for the directional drilling they lost a couple of drill bits and then a drill. Apparently all is good now. So now we wait for the contractors to start their splicing etc. Been waiting with bated breath for FTTH since the installation was done in July.

Eish, can imagine it being frustrating with you not being able to stream source on Twitch (been there myself). I think to fast track your request, rather send @PBCool your ticket number via PM and he can address it for you personally.

@LadyDi that sounds hectic. So you've been waiting for 6 months now? Good grief, glad I'm not in LHP any more as that would've driven me crazy! Looks like they finished the drilling however over the December holidays as the trench underneath the N1 looks to be covered up last time I drove over to LHP.

Guys, I'm in universitas. I heard that there is some legal battle between sadv and contractors that are delaying the network going live. Such a frustration. Signed up already last year. Just waiting for network to go live.

Damn, that's bad.

Was wondering what was causing the delay

From the areas you've specified, only Gardeniapark has been earmarked for future fibre by Frogfoot. The other areas, no such luck.

Area that don't have such a luck future fibre is it because of Network coverage ?????
