Hi.

I want to start my own blogging community but don't know wich blogging software to use, or to get it.

The blog will be laid back and thus the software must have the same laid back style ( it must not look like a stuck-up corporate blog)

Something like http://blogster.com/ would be fine.

Could anybody plaese help me.
Thanks

Wordpress - http://wordpress.com/

Fully customisable blogging software.

EDIT - I have their software running on my server but you can also get a free blog there.

Thanks, but I don't need a free blog just for myself. I want to host a blog service. Will their software do this?

Isn't wordpress for single blogs, not a community site?

One I have heard of is LifeType, but whether it is any good I don't know.

I suppose it depends on the size of the community but you can run multiple wordpress blogs on a site.

Can I use a ISP to host the software for me, and what would the requirements be?

Great find - imho it doesnt get much better than wordpress. :D

I'll probably be porting one or two of my websites from textpattern to wordpress: does wordpress have a steep learning curve? And is it easy to create new templates? Is comment spam still such a huge problem?

Wordpress is pretty intuitive. I dont think designing your own there is going to be too difficult.

As for comment spam we recently discussed it here. http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=70384

Wordpress is a good bet :D It's nice and easy to use.

Lifetype supports a bit more customization for users but lacks some of the intuitive feel of wordpress.

I'm trying to think if there are any other blog systems I'd say are excellent... none really spring to mind.
