Blood Glucose tests - whats normal?

I bought one of these shoot yourself in the finger blood glucose tests - purely for amusement, my girlfriend recently had hers tested at the doctor - and paid R200 for the tests, and a consultation fee of around R250 - R450 gone. I paid R250 for the machine thingy...

Now it doesn't have any information on how to interpert the results - mine seems high 7.8 mmol/l - Granted, I just ate sushi two hours ago...
 
Seems you will be paying R200 for a laboratory test, as well as R250-R450 for a consultation in addition to what you forked out for the machine thingy...

7.88 is in the normal range which is between 4 and 8. Maybe slightly high but nothing to worry about.
 
My mom is Diabetic and the last I heard her glucose level before meal is 6.2, which is ok.

I bought her one of those handheld glucose test kits so she can check herself regularly.
 
7.8 is a bit on the high side. Blood glucose levels should preferably be checked in the morning, before breakfast. Last time I performed a check, I had a fasting blood glucose level of 4.5 mmol/L.

All the links I've read says 7.8 is pre-diabetes.

Brought the test home - so will test when I wake up :p

LOL - true - I bought it for kicks - I do get frequent headache's, but blamed that on my eyes :p
 
My advice is that you visit your GP asap. I went through this last year and have had to change my eating, drinking and exercise habits or end up with type 2 diabetes.

Go directly to any pathology lab, and to do a Glucose as a self referral. Ampath (Bouwer & Partners) accepts self referral. Unfortunately Self referral will be on a cash up front basis as medical aids don't pay for self referral.

I would recommend that you don't have anything to eat or drink the night before from around 10pm, get ready in the morning and go to a path lab around 7:30, and get your Glucose & Lipids done. From there decide if you should see your GP.

The home glucose kit is useful if you're a diabetic, other than that, if you're not sure how to interpret the results, see your GP
 
I'll decide in the morning :) I'm sure the sushi raised it, also drank five bottles of wine yesterday evening, sure that didn't help.... else I'll go to a doctor :(

If you are blood type O then you can not eat gluten.
 
O/T, but - can somebody explain to me how the blood PRESSURE system works - I tested mine and got 123/90 - what the hell does that mean?

123 litres over 90 PSi per square inch? what?
 
Food alergies are to do with blood type. Foods like bread pasta has gluten in it, if you eat it you can maybe feel sleepy, faint, light headed, upset tummy or get bad skin like boils, acne and so on. Things like diet and wrong blood type foods gives the same symtoms that diabetics has. I got so sick from foods, I am a health freak and I only ate the healthy foods but I never knew food allergies are to do with your blood type. Not talking about death or that type, but things like laxtos or gluten.

The 123 refers to your systolic (peak) pressure in millimeters of mercury (mmHg; 1 mmHg ~ 133 Pa), with the 90 being the diastolic (lowest) pressure, also in mmHg. The diastolic pressure is too high; go see a doctor.
 
This morning I scored 5.8 - took me forever to get blood - it was damn cold, shot myself about 15 times on the deepest setting - hurt like hell.
