You should (in general) replace ALL the caps, even if only one is damaged.

Call there. Speak to Graham. You could courier the board up to him. Or you could ask him if he knows of anyone in the Cape Town area that could help.

Replace the motherboard. If one cap has blown, then the chances are that other components have also been damaged. It is also not possible for a local electrician oke to replace the cap, as the motherboard consists of layered micro soldering. Sorry, but my advice is to discard the motherboard, and get a new one...

Which mobo is it? Some of them are repairable. I've fixed a couple of them already.

What is layered micro soldering?

The caps on many PC parts are the weak link... they also "age" the fastest. I would definitely try replacing them if the cost is not too high. I have had success in repairing many motherboards and power supplies by replacing caps.

If you don't have a friend that can do it for you, it might not be worth it...

If the caps are through-hole caps (which they probably are - electrolytic) then you won't have any problem replacing them.

It's a VIA Board 8537 i think something like that. My system still powers up and everthing but just not booting.

Get the exact model number and I'll check it out for you. Maybe you can tell me what the voltage/etc. is on the cap as well.
