Blu-ray drives & discs in SA

Just saw the latest Makro advert. They are selling an internal LG Blu-ray drive and rewritable 25GB Blu-ray discs for R5,999.00 and R145.00 respectively.

It is not listed on the Website as yet though.

Quite a steep cost per GB as well if you consider you can get a 300GB hard-drive for less than the cost of 10 x 25gb blu-ray discs. Also you'll be the only dude with one of these drives for a loooong time.

if someone spend 6k on this they are utterly stupid

i can understand a 8800gtx its got a use but does a 149 disk have a use for?

crazy and stupid

but dvd writers started off the same way

Yes i agree. In a years time those drives will probably sell for R800

An 8800gtx has use? To render some polygons a little faster?
How is that more important than storing 25GB on a CD sized disk? :)

Yes R6000 for both an 8800 and a BD Drive is idiotic.

U\no but i would when a dx 10 game comes out you would rather have a 8800gtx than a 6k blu ray drive which might not even become a standard :)

I agree with Fudzy you can get a media player and 500GB HDD for half the price, even less. Its portable, can be used as a external HDD and movies can be transfered to it and you dont have to make sure your friends have a dvd or blueray player.

The irony is that the writer and the PS3 are both around the same price :/

Anybody buying a PS3 mainly for it's BR drive may as well buy the writer.

PS3 is actually being subsidised by sony at the moment, so many of the people buying them are just doing so to get a subsidises blu-ray player
