Hi

Can anybody suggest an affordable bluray drive? Doesnt have to write, just read.

Or would it just make sense to buy a bluray player instead, as i was going to output from my pc to my tv. I have a media player, but still prefer an actual bluray player

Ta

If you're going to be using it primarily to watch movies, then I'd say just buy a Bluray player.
That way you'll be sure that it will be 100% compatible with all FullHD TV's and then you can benefit from all the things such as audio via HDMI, optical audio out, etc. AND last but not least, it'll consume much less power.

Go for a Sony theyre the inventors of blu ray and the quality is brilliant, i got the bdp s190 and it also supports all formats of video mkv etc and supports ntfs drives which is awesome. just connect your TB hdd and watch.

was on special at dion wired for 790 plus a blu ray movie but thats over, u can get it from game for 799 though

I got the s380 about a year ago - its fantastic (very similar to ps3 bluray playback), but I think it's been updated to s390 now? The s380 does not do 3D I don't think.

Well, a (SONY) blu-ray writer is only R 1200,00 and blank discs have come down to R 15,00.

Bad idea to get a player for the TV, IMO. It's region locked, I would rather get a PC blu ray drive and get any DVD and run everything to my TV. Just my opionion.

Alot of players now have built in copy protection, LG doesnt, Samsung definatly does (i have one :( )
Even when your playing a mkv from a HDD or over network it cuts out and mutes the sound and displays a message saying this file does not contain the digital watermark.
LG's interface is much better than samsungs imo.
