hi

i have found a BMW 1 series 118 2007 model with 27000km for R 197 000.

Is this a good price, from looking at autotrader it seems reasonable.

Are they good cars ?

thanks

G

they are ok cars, but underpowered, quite bland inside.
smooth enough /quiet ride.
bit small.

Nope. 2007 120 models with 140k on the clock are selling for 170K But BMW is BMW and you'll have balance of motorplan which is a big plus.

thanks, its 27 000km not 270 000 km, :)

yes i think it has the balance of the motor plan. um maybe go look again on monday

My wife has the exact same model (I'm currently driving it - the baby seat doesn't fit :p). It's not bad, as bboy mentioned it's nothing spectacular inside, engine is ok for a 4 cylinder 2 litre, all in all a decent "average" BMW. It's a nice, albeit slightly expensive, "small" car.

We've had no problems whatsoever. Km's are low, so you should be able to relatively cheaply extend the motorplan period after 2012.

Motorplan is 5 years or 100k km's, so it should still have it intact unless there was a voiding of some sort which is highly unlikely.

Make sure you check the service book & have a peak at the history, Break-in service, inspection's 1 & 2, warranty claims/notes... etc etc.

I'm not sure on the price but If all else is good then you can't go wrong

You're getting fleeced. You can get the 2007 120i big upgrade from the 118! with full house exec with 40,000km on clock for R170,000 (trade/dealer price is R150k)
so keep looking or you can buy a 118 for nearly 200K and join SiriS driving the girlie car

lol, at least weekends I get to drive the 6 cylinder... :D

118i vs 120i - you have to try get yourself a 120i. It's a six cylinder. Personally, I think the 120i 3-door in white is a really nice looking car :)

For the R200k price range you can find better cars (obviously not BMW though). I am a BM fan, but they are hugely over priced!

ya, i will have to hunt around a bit for a 120i. I am upgrading from my Fiat bravo, gotten a bit tired of it.

thanks though. the new Megan Coupe looks great so does the 4 door

the 120i is a 4 cylinder surely.

the 320i from that year was, so why make the 120 the "big one"

You sure about that?

Being a BMW nut I'm pretty sure of myself :) But, I'm also willing to be proven wrong...

the 116i, 118i are 4 cylinder motors.. Not sure about the 116, but the 118i is a 2.0l 4 cylinder engine.

The 120i & the e46 320i are 2.0l 6 cylinder engines.

The newer 3 series (e90 / e92) doesn't come in 318 guise as BMW has done away with the 4 cylinder engines in the 3 series range. And for the new e90 / e92 3 series range, the M3 no longer comes in 6 cylinder (as in the e36 & e46) but in a 8 cylinder. Interestingly enough, the e30 M3 (not sold in SA) was a 2.5l 4 cylinder but high revving, lightweight and very stiff chassis, hence all BMW's have that stiff, hard type ride.

Well, if you going for the BM or the Megan you're taking a huge step up. I prefer the new Megan to the 1series BMW simply for asthetic appeal but would only go for the diesel option. Coz a 1.6 Megan may look good in coupe guise but it's going to probably be slower than your Bravo! Even if you not the heavy footed type, a big heavy shell mated with a 1.6 engine is just asking to be revved continuously to just be driven normally!

I have taken an image of the specs of the entire range of engines used in the 3 series BMW. Here you can see the 118i / 318i is a 4 cylinder, and the 120i / 320i is a 6 cylinder.

nah man, our current 320i is a 4 cylinder!

Whoops! Maybe you got a 318i with a 320i badge :)

Is your car the e36 (commonly referred to as the dolphin shape)? What year model is your car?

Looks like I"m wrong regarding the 1 series, but I won't concede defeat on the 3-series (e46)..

What year model is your car?
