@Dolby do you have the C30 or S40? I was looking for a secondhand C30 T5 for about a month and simply could not find one...So I got the 330i instead.
They seem very scare (in CT anyway). The new R-design C30 is wicked and not too badly priced considering the whole package... My only real problem with Volvo is the resell value. In my opinion a MUCH better buy than the Focus ST.

good call... Looked at maybe upgrading the fuel pump as well? Not sure how strong the stock one is, but uprated fuel pump made a huge diffence in my Astra Turbo
 
Nice one Dolby, I am a big fan of the T5's and the 2005 ones were a great value for money and very underrated.

Guys to be honest when you compare a 135i to an M3 why do you compare one modified and one standard? I just think thats are unfair. If you chip the 135i also chip the M3 then compare. Because one guy might just midify his Citi Golf and chow the M3, so please guys, standard to standard then lets talk.

I eat the Gti 5, ate the Scirroco in a Volvo S 40 T5 162kw. I stick with the 325i coupe latest as well.
 
TDK - I noticed I left the word out, but corrected in the next post rather than editing ;)

I've got the pre face lift C30 T5 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/dolby2000/4515174283/sizes/l/) There are actually only 48 pre face lift C30 T5 R Designs - I haven't seen another yet. I bought the car secondhand - so the resale didn't concern me, considering the number of gadgets and options it had.

When I only had the intercooler, I tested with a Gtech performance monitor and got a 7.5 to 100km/h and 15.5 sec 1/4 mile - that with 19" wheels. I'd guess about 7 seconds and just under 15 seconds 1/4 mile now - but haven't tested. It should be 190KW/400nm

I don't want to touch anything else while I have a motorplan. As is, I could get in trouble with the intercooler and software voiding warranty - so unless I get rich enough to cover anything or 2013, I'm sticking with what I have ;)

Been offered very good prices on an exhaust and DP - but yea ... :/
 
Man you have a nice car. Let me upload the S40. It used to have a chip but when I took it for service I got it removed, then it produced 173 KW.

Sorry bud, the likelyhood of the M brand Dying is minimal at best. Not going to happen. If you have a look at some sources, bmw is entering into DTM, they have GT2 and GT3 cars (M3 & Z4's respectively).

And btw BMW M has confirmed that the F30 M3 due between 2013-2015 will be a F/I 6'er. Whether it's an inline or V is debateable

No & No.

They have however been the best compromise between a daily driver and a track capable car. Do yourself a favour and spend 50+ hours in rush hour traffic in the e92. It is a comfortable & enjoyable experience and there is plenty power to cater for most peoples needs. Then take a trip to the local track and attempt to drive the car at 10/10ths... You will run out of talent way way before the car does.

Just so you know, a tuned n54 with bolt-ons running at alltitude would outrun an F360, a 996 GT3 hell even a 997 GT3 RS & probably run close to a F430... Now does that change anything? Does this make the Ferrari and Porsche sh*t cars and "not what they used to be". Ofcourse it does not. A different car built for a different purpose. Look at each car for what it IS and not for the sake of comparing it to others. what will they say when the M gets F/I... "The 135i/335i is not what is used to be" Cause you better believe they will be left for dead if you dare compare them.

Yes, I think it was cleared up earlier in the posts...M is not ending!

Thus, a straight line is not a measure of how good a car is...this is what I've been trying to prove to these ouens who was in the M3...flip guys on bikes brag about this all the time...but on a track its a different story...

Most of these races take place on public roads which happen to be straight...well mostly :D

A chipped 135i is the M3's worst nightmare, however, there are modified E92 M3's out there and they are very quick. Also the car itself doesn't mean much if there's a *** driver behind the wheel.
 
Hence I said compare standard to standard , modified to modified or dont compare at all.

True, ALFAHOLIC knows this but he's just stirring. And even if you compare std to std looking only at a one dimensional measure like straight line dicing is a bit dumb. I love my 135 but preferred the 335 cause it has most of the performance of the 135 + a whole lot of extra luxuries.

Incidently not sure how you would chip an M3; modify yes ito reduced weight, bigger cylinders, etc - try the chipped 135i against an M3 CSL maybe ?

You're missing the point again; sticking a saturn rocket booster onto a golf velocity and racing it against an 911, makes as much sense as your original comparison...but just as an academic exercise:

the m3 csl (now called the GTS) is lighter than the 135i and has +100kW more power; for the 135i to match the csl requires a power enhancement of 45%; which AFAIK is testing the limits of chip tech.
 
But then it's not a CSL?

I think he was talking of the E46 CSL - 200-odd KW at the fly
 
135i vs //M3. Geez, Alfa fan stirring the pot here.... Don't have much to add as everyone's mentioned all the points I would have.

Would be interesting to see how nicely the //M3 will do against this chipped 135i down at sea level.

With all that said, the only point I've seen so far about performance cars that I disagree with is the preference of C30 T5 instead of Ford Focus ST. I have no first hand experience but media that I have read to base my opinion on , and from what I've read in CAR Magazine and online comments from those who've driven both, the ST is a clear winner (for a drivers car). No offence to Dolby, but Volvo's are just plain boring :)
