BMW 135i chipped vs BMW e92 M3

Hi ouens, its been a while since we were on here arguing for hours on end about the truths and relevancies of what we've heard or seen! I miss those times!

Some of my mates have been in an e92 M3, standard, and now this is the end all and be all of all cars! When I told them that I saw, countless times how my one work friend's e92 M3 got embarrased by a black 135i with chip and exhaust (based on the sound it emits!!!) they rant and rave saying that is impossible...I've seen it, my friend who owns the M3 has seen it...and its true...how many will beg to differ!

The M is no longer what it used to be, no wonder they are ending it off! No more M's...how sad is that? Since the introduction of turbo engines in BMW's, they produce LESS KW's than a standard e46 M3 but yet they are 50% more effecient...damn, its an end of an era! But the start of a great one as well! Turbo power FTW!:p

Straight line hey? Yes that does say a lot... Give me a Golf Life 1.6 and R100k and I'll whip the modified 135...

Sure that turbo'd engine is amazing (and in my opinion quite underrated) but there is a LOT more about a car than just racing from robot to robot... Just pure build quality between the ///M and 135 is worlds apart...
 
standard 135i vs m3 up here in gauteng ... Its very close ... Off a line ... M3 in front by a car all the way ... Rolling at any other speed the 135i is in front ... So ingear acceleration is quicker on a 135i ... Chipped 135i will kill an M3 ... Had all experiences
 
I agree TDK01...I hate those guys who come with my car's better than yours because it goes like stink ina straight line...we cannot even bring the interior into perspective...i like to look at a car's overall package...simple things like, how do you feel when you are down, and get into your car...do you feel better? Do you yearn to go drive your car when you have no where to go? Does straight line speed realy matter other than on a drag strip?
 
Yeah at altitude the turbo aspirated engine loses only around 2% of its power output while normally aspirated between 12-17%. So what power is a chipped 135i pushing out?? Probably significantly lighter than the M3 too...

Where did you hear they are ending the M range? They are busy with the new M5 as we speak.
Either way the 135i chipped makes good power up here especially and will see off the M3 when chipped. Seen a chipped 335i that would run with a V10 M5 which is no joke. But the M is more than just straight line performance.

I've been waiting for someone to challenge that statement, I heard it on Auto Mundial when they featured the Z4is...they said it will come to an end...I'm not sure coz this morning I saw a rendition of the M5 on worldcarfance...lol...do some research!
 
M5 is coming out in 2011 with 4.4l twin turbo engine already doing service in the X5 and X6 M. BMW will not end M division but will adapt to the times. Just bidding my time to get the current NA M5..that V10 wail.....
 
I played around in my T5 with a 335i and it left so far behind, it was sick - I could hardly identify the car at my 130km/h!

Tried a 135i and expected the same (rolling) and it wasn't nearly as bad - probably about 4 car lengths before the robot.

Are they identical engines? What's the power on these?

2 weekends ago we raced the M6 vs 135(chipped + mods) over 550nm.

The M6 won everytime but the same 135 kills M3s.

I just watched while sitting in a new Z4, its quite a cool car, I like it, for a BM.

JK8 - you're used to driving Polo GTIs ; in a league above most cars out there, so I'd definatley take your optinion into consideration ...

... but out of interest - how do manage to call BS without knowing anything about either the 335i or 135i run? I mean, 10+ car lengths over 1/4 mile is pretty convincing and I wouldn't think much wrong if I was reading it?

The second rolling start over about 200m ... with him ahead 4 car lengths also doesn't sound that far fetched to me.

What should have happend? Could you also tell me if either was modded and not running well?
 
Odd that you made it seem as though you gave the 335 10 car lenghts and the 135 4 car lenghts, perhaps I understood it wrong.

But it can be one of 2 things, the 335 wasn't racing or had an elephant in the boot.
 
No ... LOST by 10 car lengths to the 335i (standstill, long distance) and LOST by 4 lenths to the 135i (rolling, shorter distance)

Does it clear it up?

PS I do the post my ambiguous (left a word out) - but I thought logic prevailed :P
 
Dolby when you had your Japanese car you were all about stats and timing now you granpa driver is confusing you...

I've never once claimed that either car could do - or can do - something it can't.

I have credibility with most on here for that very reason.

Or do you want to challenge me on something?

LOL did the 335 know you are racing?!?! Yes the 335 and 135 has the same engine.

I don't mean to diss the volvo - I think they're fantastic cars with exceptional build quality - but the stats speak for themselves...

To rephrase : I saw the 335i flying and weaving in traffic in my rear view. At the robot, he stopped behind me - but we both knew we were going to put foot.

Lights go green and I fly off the line. He swaps lanes (booting it) and flies past me - around 10 car lenghths ahead of me (after around 500m). I flashed lights ; so did he. In other words, he slaughtered me.

Did you read the post after JK8 where I said it was ambiguous? Even in my initial post, there's nothing to say I was ahead :/

The 135i was from 2nd gear over a much shorter distance. I assumed - judging from the 335i - that it'd slaughter me as easily had been done before.

He beat me fair and square - but no where near the same distance.

PS I was 169/320 with the 335i and 190/400 with the 135i

169kw - but I've got a larger intercooler and software taking it to 190kw. I didn't have software with the 335i though.

What I don't understand is that if these cars can beat me by 10 car lenghts and people call BS - what should it be? 20? 30?

It's not a jet car ...
