Maintenance on the E36 is quite high, if you are looking to spend only 20k, get a golf or a tazz or something cheap to maintain.

E36 Engine is very strong, if someone looked after that car even 400k is fine,
Rich and some poor paranoyd people alwayse complain about the mileage.
person drove this car to 300k and all of the sudden engin is gone becoz you bought it. this is bul *****.

You aren't too clued up about cars so let me tell you how it works, cars have things like radiator houses, fuel lines, brake lines, clutch, etc. etc. Those things get old and eventually need to be replaced, at 300 000km it's a good bet you are gonna start replacing parts, so you end up replacing something every few months, eventually it would have been cheaper to buy a new car.

Secondly he said the car is smoking that means the engine is in need of a overhaul, it can be a Mercedes, BMW, Opel or Uno, doesn't matter! When a engine reaches 300 000km many parts in the engine need replacing. A great engine like the old Opel C20XE (which from the factory was incredibly overbuilt and had high tolerances) might only need new piston rings and valve stem seals (and that's if it was taken care of) but more modern engines, especially turbo charged engines, need lot more than that, the pistons wear down the cylinders (which means the block needs to go in for engineering), the water and oil pump needs replacing, etc. etc.

And the fact that it's already smoking could mean anything, for all we know one of the pistons threw a ring (which means it's chewing into the bore) or the head gasket started leaking which means the entire bottom end is gonna be in a bad condition.

you must be joking, So its mean as soon car reach 300k its gonna fall apart.
The previous owners never replace anything.
I know he mention the condition of the car, but what about other high mileage cars,
For some people mileage over 100k is disaster.be coz they can offord it.

(i know new cars under 10k mileage, falling apart)
Whenever poor person want to buy mug or bimer, People jump from all over dont buy go buy golf or corolla.
I still believe its nonsense,

New cars that falls apart is obviously a POS or you just had bad luck. And yes some cars start breaking down at 100 000km others at 500 000km fact is your car, statistically has a much higher chance of break down as it ages, and once again, as the car ages more and more parts need to be replaced.

I'm not talking about normal service items, a engine overhaul isn't a service item, most items on a car isn't service item, things like the ignition system (coil-pack, coil-on-plug, distributer, whatever the case) doesn't have a change interval, the mean time before failure is X hours, it may fail long before or long after that X hours, hence no change interval but your chances are hell of a lot better when you sit on X hours than before.

peace, think about what you are saying, rather than just getting pissed off because your argument doesn't hold water.

Of course some cars can do very high milages, but that will always be under exceptional conditions.

What you are saying is that because your grandfather lived to 102 without getting sick means that everyone should be able to...the chances of the 102 year old finally shedding his mortal coil fairly soon are a bloody sight better than those of a 10 year old...

Cars tend to work the same way..........

E36 316i i had drove more then 350k, E46 318i recently i sold it mileage was over 250k
those Engine are very strong,
If engine is not right for this car then you will find lots of them around R20k to R30k.

The engine is smoking. A whole lot of stuff on this car doesn't work. It clearly has not been taken care of. It is high milage (by any standard - dealers say more than 20Mm (Mega metres:p) per year is on the high side - this has done that for 14 years!). It is fairly expensive too. Even new it was a fairly ordinary car. Therefore, a terrible buy.

The only reason why we are even talking about this is because it has a bmw sticker on the front.

If you cannot afford to buy a new BMW complete with service plan, and then sell it when you run out of service plan and buy something else equally stupid, then you don't deserve to drive a BMW!

People who cannot afford a BM and then buy a crappy one instead of a decent cheaper car honestly deserve whatever crap they pick up along the way........
