So, you’ve been driving the same old car for a while now and somehow the car just lost it’s magic luster that you swore at the dealership would never disappear. Now whenever you walk over to the garage there is this sinking feeling that things just aren’t what they used to be. There is a dent in the rear fender and the damned window has got a chip. The radio doesn’t sound as cool as it used to with one or two speakers (you are not sure) definitely in need of replacement.

What have you been paying off on all these years?!!?

Don’t worry! Now you have the guys at BMW to thank for finally making a material cover “cool” for the consumer car! Why not rip out that ugly fender and give it to your sister, mom, granny or aunt (whoever does the sewing in your family) and get a nice fabric color to match, stitched over it. An elastic fabric that handles weather well will do. You might have trouble finding fabric that does the job well for prolonged periods of exposure to the sun and perhaps rainy weather, but that didn’t stop the guys at BMW from giving it a bash.
Say hello to the BMW GINA. She looks like a roadster but acts like your washing tub when filled with clothes. She is bulky but pretty and covered from tip to end in space age fabric that can withstand the sun and the rain and also move with mechanical innards that shape shift the car into useful positions. I like to call it auto emotion because the eyes can kind of blink. When you need lights, the body of the car moves to reveal headlamps. When you don’t the body moves to cover the headlamps.

Perhaps the guys at BMW didn’t want to seem too girlie at the prospect of turning a car into a Barbie that they dress up and who’s eyes blink on their command. Whatever the scenario, it is clear that they have spent way too much time alone inside the lab.

If however you are looking for the serious skinny on the GINA, go and visit some of these:
