BMW Motor Plan Extension Question

They did inform us of a maintenance plan with Motorite. It's around 34k for years or 60k km. Any experience with this type of plan? This plan excludes fuel and top oil, accidental damage, tyres, driver abuse, non-mech interior or exterior repairs, communication or entertainment devises, sunroof systems, repairs from pre-existing conditions, engine flush or any repairs not crucial to the drive ability and safety.

No they never quoted me nor mentioned that one.
I'm also the 3L/6cyl petrol (not that 2L engine), i don't know about issues the other guys are mentioning on the 2L.

Any limits on how much they would pay for something specific?

I would personally choose the BMW motor plan or nothing. I don't want some kind of back and forth about who pays for something.
 
Bmw has their own extended warranty, if the car is still in plan. I wouldn’t bother with a Motorplan extension at that mileage.

Bmw extended warranty costs about 15k for 2 years. It’s still administered by Innovation I think, but because it’s bmw branded there is a bit more pull by the dealer. The trick is to always take it to the dealer you bought it from for any warranty work, so you can stick it to them if the administrator is giving you hassles. For absolute peace of mind though, and if you willing to spend, nothing beats the BMW Motorplan.

On a side note the maintenance plan on a Mercedes is garbage, the limit you to weird stuff like 2
brake pads and wiper changes in 5 years. Imagine buying a C class thinking you have a full plan but have to pay for your third brake pad change after some spirited driving.
 
Put the 50k in your bank account (or better yet your home loan).

IF something happens use it to pay for stuff.

If nothing happens…as is more likely go have a nice holiday.

And use a third party specialist, not the dealer.

The missus is concerned about something happening mechanically, but my thoughts are with such low mileage its very unlikely. She does around 10 000 km a year and will likely keep the car for 5 years. Should we extend the plan for maybe 1 year instead, go with the 2 years or go with an extended warranty? Is there something else we can look at? We do plan to continue servicing it at BMW.

25K per year is about right to extend the motor plan, so the price sounds right.

Is that quote from BMW or a BMW dealership?

I would pay the 50K to extend it as the motor plan covers everything besides petrol and tires, most other plans do not.

Over and above this, if the missus decides to sell the car without a motor plan you can knock 30K-50k off trade in price when it comes to trading it in.

Motor plan is money well spent if you plan on keeping the car for the duration of the plan or if you plan on selling before it expires.
 
Last year I extended the Freeway Plan on my Audi A4 for 2 years (without additional mileage) at a cost of R28k. I would have thought that the cost of a 2 year Motorplan extension on a BMW x2 would be similar.

Well, a major service, water pump and rear disc/pads on my Tiguan was R22 000.

If you are in JHB or PTA, you can use Ross Duncan in Midrand for all BMW needs.
