Has anyone else tried to renew their motor plan for an additional year recently?
I was quoted 100% more than what I paid last year and wondering if this is normal...

Not sure how it works but the longer you wait the more expensive it gets. Even getting a quote a month apart can be a couple of thousand difference

From what I understand it is more expensive to extend with kms than it is to extend with time.

If your on 100k km and want to extend to say 120k km they'll charge something like R1-R1.20 per km.

However extending with time is far cheaper.
Your kms is very low, how much did they quote you?

4k for another year
i paid about 2k last year...
their reasoning behind the increase was the fuel price, the current exchange rate.. its pretty much bs..

yeah i wont be extending once i reach my mileage limit because then it just becomes ridiculous

In my opinion 4k for a year is not bad.

I would pay that, no questions asked.

How much will a brake pad change cost you? Around around R5000!!!

How much will two rear shocks cost you? Around R10000.

Air flow meter? R6000

And you have the peace of mind of knowing if anything fails, it won't cost you a cent.

Also, if you don't have MP and try to sell the car, you will loose Biiiiiiig time. Much more than the R4000 you are not willing to spend now.

So see the r4000 as a investment.

And it is still way cheaper than Audi extensions. I've extended a few BMW motor plans before - purchased time - in the region of approx R3-3.5k. Very fair, even R5k, for that peace of mind.

Audi wanted to charge me R18k for a time extension (apparently they don't distinguish between time and kilometers). You can guess where I told them to shove it. :)

I paid to R3,742.48 in Dec 2011 to extend by 1 year and R6,671.91 in Dec 2012 to extend by another year.

You can't seriously be complaining about a 4k quote for a FULL YEARS motorplan? Yes it is more than last year, but you underpaid last year IMO.

A major service on my 2002 Toyota costed arounf 3k not to long ago (no major parts were replaced).

thread update!
I was quoted R15k for a 12 month extension of my motorplan for my 2013 320D for 2018
Considering my options.
I will likely need brakes tended to in the next 12 months and a basic service.

Hi-Q charges 3k for disc and pads new. About 5k at dealership.

Service is R1600 odd at the dealership. "Full" service is 5.2k for oil change, air filter, fuel filter and aircon micron filter, this needs to be done every 3rd service.

Might want to go for warranty rather for 14k for unlimted km 2 years and pay the rest out of your pocket.

ok, good to know.
I have asked about the warranty aspect.
thanks

FYI, I opted for a 2 year extended warranty from BMW finance. I will service out of pocket when required.
Now to find a good service station in Cape Town that is RMI approved and does not charge BMW service prices....

2k and 4k? wtf? Is this a 116i? That's nothing just do it.

Tuning company, but they service also. They do a very good job, they know bmw's very well.

SMG also have specials now and then on oil services.
