Looking to extend an expiring motorplan for a 3 series.
Current 5 year plan is expiring in a few months.

I have not yet requested a quote from BMW.

Any idea of reasonable third party options (including maybe some insurance backed options)

BMW can sell you a 3rd party plan , was around 14k for 2 year unlimited mileage on mine. Think it was backed by "innovation", was the company called.

Through if it expiring this year then might own early 2014 model of 320I which was based on N20 engine, then might want to take extended motorplan if you engine and chain was not replaced yet. Engines and chain is know to fail which causes quite big damage.

For the a 320D you can just get 3rd party plan, engine's are bullet proof.

There's no point in going 3rd party, it is basically an insurance policy with a whole bunch of exclusions in the fine print. You're better off with nothing and then budgeting for the future maintenance.

BMW's motorplan, expensive as it may be, at least includes most things rather than the 3rd party insurance policy that will exclude many things.

So choose between having the BMW motorplan extended or having nothing.

Read the fine print on the 3rd party as it’s often only partial coverage and for outright failures.

The 3rd party through BMW is usually better, but if you’re wanting to sell the car in the near future, going with the actual BMW motorplan extension is worth it.

Check pricing and decide from there. Also depends on which model you have - some are higher risk.
