Hi

Is it worth it spending R30k to extend a bmw motorplan for 1year/15,000km (current ODO is 94,000km) ?

Its a 335i and I have never had any trouble with it (except with a recent oil leak).

I know this is really a peace of mind payment - but is it worth it? or anyone had any experieince with this?

thanks

ps. I am not going to sell or trade it

I wouldn't! Rather have R30 K available in the event something were to happen!

Get hollard motor plan insurance! What's the worst thing that can happen in about a years time. Your engine seize! Just keep an eye on that oil leak, doesn't motor plan over oil leaks. If so insist they fix it.

Good point, but is the worst thing that can happen to a 335i in most instances going to be less than R30k?

The oil leak is already fixed, so thats not an issue

I wouldn't and didn't when I got a similar quote to extend the motorplan on my Audi for 1 year/15000kms. Still sounds excessive...

How much does the "VANOS" cost on that car?

Apparently they are known to break, on all BMWs.

I wouldn't extend not worth it....find a good after market BMW specialist and then nothing that can go will cost you that much to repair.

Had a similar quote on my 135. R32k for 1 year. I didn't extend.

There was an issue with the VANOS bolts recently (a year or so) in the N55 engine. Suggest you take your car to BMW now to check if any campaigns are active on it while you're still covered.

I wouldn't bother, rather keep the money for when something comes up. It's more likely you'll have major issues above 120,000kms so save it for then.

That's 30k for one service.

Not a moer it will cost that much out of pocket.

If you have the 30K just put it away until the service time comes, problem solved...you have your own motorplan.

I had a 2007 E90 335i, warranty was never extended and I had no problems at all. Took my car to BMW specialists in CPT (Zeemax) for services, never looked back. It really depends on how you drive your car. If you push it A LOT, it might be worth it to extend, otherwise it just isn't worth it at all. All you need to do is save on a monthly basis for any unforeseen costs, then you're covered.

They're not expressing a hell of a lot of confidence in their own product are they?

Last week they fixed an oil leak, and the dealer billed BMW R21k!

Still if that's the most expensive thing you've had fixed, you're unlikely to fix 2 major items in 1 year to justify the R30,000.
Typically just after 100,000kms is quite a safe time. I don't know too many people with major failures. I think the built in obsolescence is set to kick in clear of the maintenance plan to ensure they don't have to replace too much, but when you get around 120,000-150,000, look out, you could be in for a shock.

Why not get a Hollard extender plan? It's month to month so you can cancel at any time.

There's a decent guy I know of in Vereeniging,ex-BMW head technician(Vaal Ridge Auto)after he left BMW I took my cars to him.If you don't find anybody decent in JHB send me a PM I'll give you his details.

Just not worth sending a BMW to BMW dealerships directly for services or repairs after motorplan they will kill you with pricing.

See you would have already lost 9k.

I also think they heavily inflate those figures as so extra work that isn't necessarily required.

And even then the exact same job will be half price from a third part Specialist.
