BMW X7 Price Announced for South Africa

Hot on the heels of the international reveal of the BMW X7, pricing has appeared on the BMW South Africa website. Here's how much the biggest X costs.

After seeing the BMW X7 iPerformance concept, it was only a matter of time before a production X7 was revealed. Built alongside the X3, X4, X5 and X6 at BMW's plan in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the BMW X7 is a lot bigger than you'd think. It boasts 7 seats and is 5 151 mm in length, 2 000 mm wide and 1 805 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 3 105 mm. BMW claims that these are the largest kidney grilles ever.

The X7 also features large wheels. The standard units are of the 20-inch variety, while you can option 21- and 22-inch wheels. BMW has fitted the new X7 with a smart xDrive system which can send 100% power to the rear axle.

The price for the South African-spec BMW X7 was discovered on the BMW SA website and we can confirm that we're getting the two diesel models. The xDrive 30d has 195 kW and 620 Nm from a 3.0-litre inline 6 cylinder motor, while the M50d Performance pushes out 294 kW and 760 Nm from a quad-turbo 3.0-litre inline 6-cylinder. Both vehicles feature all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 30d is said to consume 7.0 L/100 km and emit 192 g/km, while the M50d is said to use 7.3 L / 100 km, with CO2 emissions rated at 192 g/km.

Here’s how much the BMW X7 will cost you in South Africa

The new BMW X7 has only just been revealed, but the South African arm of the Munich-based brand has already published pricing for its fresh flagship seven-seater SUV on its website.

In March 2019, South Africa will receive two BMW X7 derivatives – the diesel-powered xDrive30d and M50d – while missing out on the petrol options (the xDrive50i and xDrive40i).

According to BMW SA’s configurator, the X7 xDrive30d – with its 3,0-litre inline-six worth 195 kW and 620 N.m – will be priced from R1 562 849. This model will hit 100 km/h from standstill in a claimed 7,0 seconds, before topping out at 227 km/h.

The X7 M50d, meanwhile, will start at R1 862 308. This variant employs an engine of the same capacity, but with outputs increased to 294 kW and 760 N.m. The result is a dash to three figures in a claimed 5,4 seconds, with top speed governed to 250 km/h.

Both engines are mated to all four wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic transmission. An M Sport differential at the rear, which offers electronically controlled locking, is fitted as standard on the M50d.

Inside, you’ll find three rows of seats, with the two passengers in the third row enjoying what BMW calls “full-size seats complete with armrests, cupholders and USB ports”. As an option, the middle row can be specified with two individual “comfort seats” (rather than the standard three-person bench). All seats are electrically adjustable. The Bavarian brand claims the luggage capacity can be increased from 326 litres to a maximum of 2 120 litres.

BMW X7: South African pricing confirmed

Just a day after BMW’s biggest-ever SAV was revealed to the world, pricing has appeared on the South African website, so here’s how much you’ll have to budget for ahead of its local launch, planned for March 2019:

BMW X7 xDrive30d R1 562 849
BMW X7 M50d R1 862 308

That puts the newcomer at a premium of around R360 000 over the new-generation X5, which is due to launch here in November.

Standard features include BMW’s Live Cockpit Professional with gesture control, five-zone automatic climate control, Head-Up Display, BMW Display Key, Parking Assistant Plus and Driving Assistant Professional.

The list of optional extras includes, among other things, a Panoramic Sky Lounge (R17 800), BMW Laserlights (R21 800), xOffroad Package (R27 600), massage function for front seats (R15 800), and individual middle row rear seating for two, replacing the three-passenger bench (R9600).

As previously reported, the X7 is 265mm longer than the new X5, and claims to offer comfortable seating for seven adults with 326 litres of boot space available even when all seats are in place.

South Africans will have two 3-litre turbodiesel engine options in the form of the 195kW/620Nm xDrive30d and 294kW/760Nm quad-turbo M50d.

Air suspension on both axles allows the car to be raised or lowered by up to 80mm and buyers can order an offroad package that offers four selectable modes.

That is not pretty. Not in the slightest.

It's ugly, and I feel dirty for wanting it. And want it, that I do. Would you mind driving around in this, seeing what you think of the looks?

BMW Had Plans For X7 M But They Have Been Scrapped For Now

In the middle of last year the rumors swirling the ‘net about a possible BMW X7 M were rife and for good reason it seems.

According to BMWBlog, they were investigating the option of a X7 M but a potential market for the X7 M is seen as too small for now. With the general SUV craze things might change in the future.

The range-topping offering in the X7 family is the xDrive50i but there will be a M50i model in the future to become the beefiest bruiser.

This will apply for all big SUVs, from the X5 to the X6 and X7 and all of them will come with the same 530 hp (395 kW), 750 Nm engine from the M850i.

An X7 M model would have used the same engine as the upcoming X5 M and X6 M SUV’s, same as the M8. That engine offers a smooth 600 hp and up to 750 Nm of torque, which would have been more than enough to move forward the heavy and large luxury SUV.

Looks gorgeous in white with the chrome side strips. Ostentatious and Vulgar. Lovely!

And positively so, I so see myself in one of these. That maintenance plan would last very as I would be driving all the time.
