BMW X7 M50i and M50d get bump in power from dAHLer

The BMW X7 M50i and M50d are the Bavarian brand’s current flagship SUVs as no fully-fledged M variant has been planned. In an attempt to somewhat fill this void, dAHLer Competition Line has developed a tuning package for both engines.

The BMW X7 M50i uses a twin-turbo 4,4-litre V8 that delivers 390 kW and 750 N.m of torque to all four wheels as standard. Using an engine performance tuning module, dAHLer has been able to increase this output to 456 kW and 850 N.m of torque.

The M50d uses a 3,0-litre straight-six quad-turbodiesel that pushes 294 kW and 760 N.m in standard guise. With the same module, dAHLer has increased this to 338 kW and 870 N.m. Updated performance figures have not been provided for either package.

Dahler Create Their Own BMW X7 M With 637 HP (472 KW)

Currently, the most potent variant of the BMW X7 is the M50i variant and the chances of BMW M delivering a full-blown X7 M product are very slim.

Dahler has decided to take matters into their own hands and crank up the X7 M50i output to something more suitable for power-hungry lovers.

The twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 engine used in the M50i version of the X7 develops 523 hp (390 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. With help from Dahler, the numbers have increased to 621 hp (463 kW) and 830 Nm (612 lb-ft) respectively. The tuner claims that a Stage 2 upgrade is in the works, and will be delivering 637 hp (475 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft).

2022 BMW X7 enters high-speed tests at Nurburgring

Munich gears up to usher in a new look for its luxury SUV flagship, but the bold front grille remains

BMW has begun lapping the Nürburgring in the updated version of its X7 luxury SUV, launched just three years ago, ahead of an anticipated launch in 2022.

The facelifted X7 will retain the current car's striking front grille, in line with the company's commitment to its radical but controversial new styling direction.

These new images confirm that the restyling will instead focus on the headlights, which have moved lower down the front end and adopted a more rectangular shape, similar to those worn by a recently spotted prototype for BMW's upcoming electric luxury saloon: the i7. There is also a reshaped lower bumper that appears to do away with the current car's prominent side air intakes.

Following the initial unveiling of the X7 and the updated 7 Series with which it shares its front end design, BMW design director Adrian van Hooydonk argued that the SUV's prominent air intakes were in proportion to the rest of the car, and in fact smaller than those of its main rivals.

Japanese tuner Wald fits a brave bodykit to the already rather imposing X7

Looks like Japanese tuner Wald thought the BMW X7 needed to stand out a little more.

Check out its new bodykit. Certainly not shy, is it? Wald has fitted a mighty new front bumper that almost makes that grille look small. Almost.

There are a whole heap of new LED lights front and rear too, as well as lower side skirts, a rear spoiler and a very busy rear bumper complete with a diffuser. Because we’ve always thought the X7 needed a diffuser.

BMW X7 Nishijin Edition revealed as ultra-exclusive special edition SUV

The BMW X7 Nishijin Edition has been unveiled for the Japanese market as a highly exclusive offering. With just three units being made, the new model boasts a unique colour-scheme both inside and out.

The BMW X7 Nishijin Edition is based on the xDrive40d model in Pure Excellence trim. This design of this SUV uses the concept of “change of light and colour” which can be seen in the paint used for the exterior. The BMW Individual ametrine shade uses multiple pigments to achieve deep colours through multi-layer coating. The hue changes as light reflects along the surface thanks to the aluminium flake and mica overcoat.

Within the cabin of the BMW X7 Nishijin Edition, a special foil applied to Japanese paper has been placed on the interior trim with gold and silver foil pigment. This five-colour gold layering process adds to the colour and depth of the shade thus creating a unique 3D effect.

The merino leather upholstery has been decorated with foil that has been cut into extremely fine pieces. The surface of each piece is pulled and checked while being delicately woven with silk warp threads. BMW says the cabin of the BMW X7 Nishijin Edition benefits from a high technical ability and artistry that is not often seen. While retaining the moist texture of leather, it emits elegant light and color from the glance of the three-dimensional weave, colouring a high-quality drive.

BMW X8 rendered based on recent spy pics and insider information

As we’ve know, the BMW X8 has been in the pipeline by the Bavarian manufacturer since it was first rumoured in 2017 when the X7 concept broke cover. Since then, a number of spy shots of the camouflaged car has given us an idea of what that product may look like.

Penned by Kolesa.ru, the digital impression portrays the rather drastic front-end depicted by a number of covered test units that have been spotted testing in recent days. The Russian publication notes that a number of people may have expected the BMW X8 to be a coupe companion to the X7 but upon recent investigations, it seems it will be somewhat different.

The unusual silhouette of the BMW X8 will not quite be in line with the coupe SUV shapes we’ve seen thus far such as the brand’s X4 and X6. Instead it is expected to be closer to that of a traditional SUV with a slightly decreasing roofline and short D-pillar.

Updated BMW X7 restyled with abstract front-end based on spy pictures

The upcoming revised BMW X7 has been digitally rendered based on a series of spy pictures taken of a camouflaged unit that was spotted while out testing. The impression shows us a bold new look not unlike what we have seen on renders for the upcoming 7 Series.

Penned by Kolesa, the digital render of the next BMW X7 portrays a new design language for the brand which boasts a dramatic two-step headlamp cluster separated by a large kidney grille and accentuated by a dramatic lower bumper with a series of air intakes and an anti-scuff panel.

BMW X7 Cupholders Can't Get Wet Because They'll Set Off The Airbags, Lawsuit Says

That's an unfortunate design flaw for the part of your car's interior most prone to getting wet

If you’re the kind of person to have open cans of soda or cups of coffee in your cupholders, you’re probably going to want to avoid the BMW X7 for a while, since one class-action lawsuit is alleging that, if the X7's cupholders get wet, they can set off the airbags. That’s a pretty significant design flaw for that part of your car that should be designed to occasionally get a little wet.

The lawsuit was filed last Thursday, Dec. 16, and you can read through the full thing here.

Basically, the complaint alleges that the “cup holders are defective and are not properly designed to hold cups filled with liquid — the very thing cup holders are intended to do.” Yes, that also includes condensation. So even that well-sealed bottle of ice-cold water can cause problems if it has a damp exterior.

That’s because a big brain genius decided to place the control module for the airbags underneath the cupholder in the BMW X7. So, if you have something spill down in there, you’re going to have a problem. The airbags will become defective and can deploy unexpectedly.

 
641 HP (478 kW) Manhart Tuned BMW X7 M50i Is Basically An X7 M

The standard OPFs have been removed which will certainly improve the V8 soundtrack.

There are no signs that BMW will be taking the BMW X7 to a full-fat M level with an X7 M but the folks from Manhart have a new offering called the Manhart MHX7 650 that can certainly fill that void.

The range-topping BMW X7 M50i is used as a starting point which develops 523 hp (390 kW) and 750 Nm from the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8. Manhart Performance technicians have managed to crank things up to 641 hp (478 kW) and 920 Nm of torque with the use of their in-house MHtronik auxiliary control unit. In addition to the electronic tuning, a sports exhaust system with valve control is fitted which ends with four stunning carbon fibre tailpipes. The standard OPFs have been removed which will certainly improve the V8 soundtrack.

The ground clearance of the SUV, which is equipped with air suspension ex works, was lowered by around 25 millimetres by means of new coupling rods. Combine this with the typical Manhart black and gold exterior theme and a host of carbon fibre components and you have yourself one mean looking Bavarian beast.
