Body weight

1.8 metres and 68kg? Goodness.

I'm 1.78m and 82kg and I don't even really feel fat but would prefer to be 75kg.

I would fall through my own arse if I was under 70kg.

I'm 1.84m and weigh 69kg. He's not under weight. You can't see my ribs :p

He should just eat healthy and work out...no point in gaining "weight" if it's all fat.

This is the most salient point I've ready so far. Putting on "weight" isn't going to help one bit if he has to fast to get rid of the fat. He just needs to do a metric ton of work to build the muscles. Nothing's going to change the fact that he will need to do three months' worth of hard work to start gaining a noticeable amount of muscle weight, and six to really get going.

You can drink all the fans expensive meal replacements and shakes you want, but the only weight impact it's going to have is on your wallet. Think about the number of eggs you can buy with the money you spend on one of those powdered tins and the equivalent amount of protein in each.

Still haven't fallen through mine :p

At that weight, he most certainly isn't battling with being overweight. I am 183cm and 80-82kg. I bench press my body weight, do sets of 20 wide grip pullups etc., so I am kinda happy with where I am now.

1) As a beginner, don't stress about supplements. Just add any protein shake to your existing diet and wait for a month to see what effect those extra 400 or so calories have. There's no need to go all out straight away.

2) Do bodyweight exercises as much as possible, even if you cant do a single pullup to start with. This is the only way you will quickly become strong in proportion to your weight. I learned this lesson about 10 years too late.

3) Cardio is great for keeping fit, but isn't as effective as weight training in terms of calorie burn or strength gain. Rather stick to weights.

4) Always let a muscle group rest for a day before hitting it again. This goes for pullups etc. as well. Particularly if you want the muscles to grow.

Good luck.

Yes but he will have to eat more in order for the muscles to gain mass. No use trying to build muscle when you aren’t feeding them enough.

Is he struggling to pick up or doesnt have the appetite? If appetite, he could try PeriActin or CiplaActin. Small little pill will make him eat 3x as much. Downside is basically all the risks of picking up weight too quickly and will be sleepy most the time.

Best to consult a sports nutrionist to advise on a healthy eating plan coupled with his desired training to reap the ideal gains.

Hard to beat a Gomad diet. Just make sure he's exercising enough... be careful of crash weight gain, it has effects in the long term.

Weight gaining supplements do have their place. It helped me when I was younger, I bulked up nicely but got moerse pens. I didn't workout, though. If I did, the pens would've been minimal.

Best bet is to eat healthy and whole foods, a surplus of calories and hit the gym hard.
