Ag nee, man!!! We really do not need this!

Edinburgh - Springboks Chiliboy Ralepelle and Bjorn Basson are returning home from South Africa’s tour of Britain and Ireland having returned positive samples for a banned stimulant following the Test against Ireland on November 6.

Six Nations Rugby Ltd – who administers the November internationals – informed the South African Rugby Union of the positive Tests on Sunday evening.

As a result the pair are provisionally suspended from all rugby and will return to South Africa on Monday.

Basson injured an ankle in Saturday’s win over Wales and was due to return anyway.

The players were randomly drawn for testing by anti-doping officials following the Test at the Aviva Stadium. The players have the right to request that their ‘B’ sample be tested.

The pair returned an adverse analytical finding for methylhexaneamine, a “non-specified stimulant” on the prohibited substances list of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). It is scheduled to be re-classified as a “specified stimulant” from January 1, 2011.

Oh man, that's the last thing we would have wanted.

Idiots.

With a 'random selection' netting these okes, one has to wonder how many others there are (not just SA) that are cheating...

The only surprising part is that they were caught, rugby and roids go hand in hand

Considering the ridiculous amount of rugby they're expected to play we can expect more of this

If anyone is to be blamed it should be the Boks' medical team. Whatever was administered must have been recent and while on tour...

http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/mdpv/mdpv.shtml Looks like a stimulant, probably in one of their pre-workout supplements. The same stuff the Nigerians at the Commonwealth Games got nailed for, a bunch of Jamaicans and Aussies have been nailed for it too. Its not a full out banned substance yet but next year it will be. Very interesting story, I don;t know why they would use this stuff unless they never knew they were. Got some bad side effects and really doesn't seem as effective as say caffeine in terms of what you would need it for (short term energy, this stuff keeps guys up for days according to the erowid reports)

Chilliboy IS NOT the second best hooker in the land...... He would never start in any of the regional set-ups and he will NOT be missed. Basson is a good finisher and would have been great to see him develop....

that said , how can these guys not have control over the foreign substances that they put into their bodies ?

I doubt they even know how they took drugs...

I can't say I am surprised.

I personally suspect there is far more drug in sports besides cycling and sprinting than we (the public) think.

The reason why cycling and sprinting get singled out so often would be probably because of the cutting edge technology that is employed in these sports. Obviously that is not the only reason... individual glory is another strong factor.

The number one selling supplement on bodybuilding.com is Jack3d; its main ingredient is Methylhexanamine... same product used by the Free State kid that got a 6 month ban recently. Almost bought it myself yesterday (it's on special at Springbok pharmacy). It's been around for 5 years but only getting banned now, so some people are bound to get surprised by this. I can understand a schoolboy level coach not being up to date on the latest banned substances but international players and coaches should be paranoid about these things. Wonder what their excuse will be?

Got to agree, this is likely happening in most pro sports. It just takes a big investigation to change public perception. Baseball in the USA got knocked badly with the steriods investigations into MLB players.

My only emotion in this regard is that it's tarnished the South African rugby pride unnecessarily. Said earlier by another formite - Chilliboy will not be missed. Many other good quality [-]hookers[/-] :erm: players who can excel at No. 2 in this country.

I will say this, where there is one, there's usually two. Where there's two, there's usually loads more. So just who missed the net this time?

I did hear on radio today that it is possible to find these traces as a result of a number of different so-called innocent sources, which do not enhance performance. Let's wait and see the outcome.

... Let's wait and see the outcome.

My thoughts exactly! I am simply not prepared to condemn these men or any others until we know EXACTLY where the juice came from. Then, we can start a proper witch hunt. To be honest, I have a genuine concern that it was in something that many (if not all) of the team had - maybe an energy bar or drink or whatever - and as a result, we may be looking down the barrel of a very serious gun!

I also don't think the players would do this on purpose, seems very unlikely that they had the world of stimulants open to them and they chose this one, Dr Craig Roberts said it seemed likely it was from one of the many supplements in the camp, and since apparently Jack3d has it and I know people who love the stuff and swear by it, I would't be surprised if thats where it came from.

The strange thing is, the english media (sky news) where very quite when we were beating the Welsh and Irish but when they heard this, Breaking News....
