I did wonder about that comment and was about to put fingertips to keyboard! :)

In the defence of the substitutes the Scots did throw every at it in the end and had nothing to lose. This may have made the defence look worse than earlier.

I thought Pierre was solid today but I wouldn't be surprised or disappointed if Kanko were to start next week. I wonder what PDV angle will be for England? Is he going to try match them up front with a heavy pack again like todays or will he run them around the park with a mobile loose trio?

I would go with Schalk at 6 Pierre at 7 and Kanko at 8, Ruan at 9 Francios Steyn at 10, the rest of the team unchanged assuming Bismarcks fit to play and Fourie is not...

Well done Bokke, 10 zero down at 40 with some of the worst refereeing I've ever seen. It took a lot to come back and get the win.

I think these European teams have a lucky edge every year with these year end tours as they get to play with "their" refs. I would love to see what would happen one year if all these end of year tour games for NZ, Aus and SA were played with Southern Hemisphere refs.... I am of course not insinuating the refs cheat but they referee the game totally differently. It is as if they are softer and they do not like the hard, aggressive rugby we play down here.

We should have a few of these year-end tours down south. The programme of matches has gotten a bit monotonous.

I agree that they blow the game very differently. How the heck one is supposed to play in the loose I don't know. The other habit the northern refs have is to blow even if the offence is minor and has no effect on the play. So you get these games going in stits-and-farts, and you can't get your rhythm going. They also love the soft option when the scrums aren't behaving of giving penalties and free kicks, invariably the wrong way anyway. Unless you have played in the front-row you have f-all idea of what is really going on, and even then the evidence is "hearsay" LOL.

I was thrilled to hear the low cry of "BEAST" around Murrayfield though. :)

one of those voices shouting BEAST!!! was my brother ....... he was getting dagger eyes from his Scottish GF everytime he did it, he said :D

Classic. Must say he's reputation precedes him, Beasts that is, not your brothers..:D What was funny was the crowd shouted BEAST every time Brian touched the ball too...

Except I did spot one stage where the calls of "Beast" went out when ball carrier was in fact Mujati.... :) I hope that was not your brother MH?

I suppose when you have been out of this country for a while it becomes difficult to tell the difference between one player and the other! ;)

EDIT : Oops I see Sand had picked this up already too!
 
With my brother being a Sharks supporter, I'd very much doubt him calling Mujati Beast ;) Plus, he has the added bonus of being able to differentiate those funny numbers on the jerseys ;)

Hehe, ja, that Englishman that handled the Springbok game had it wrong on most occasions. Marius Jonker also had a supperb game!

One thing that I noticed, was that the Ire v NZ game was an all RSA outfit:

Referee: Marc Lawrance (RSA)
TJ1: J Kaplan (RSA)
TJ2: C Wessels (RSA)

All three from RSA - that was a rare sigting and I think a world first! This was just a confirmation that South Africa has got the best referees in the world (and that is a fact, not my guess)
 
What no clapping for j fourie? Awesome try from him. Think he is so used to only playing 5 minutes then he either gets hurt or send off, so he probably decided:"have 5 minutes, will kill all"

And I think Spies played a lot better this time around, when that man starts running and gathers pace, it takes a lot of okes to bring him down, and this time he held on to the ball!!!

But then of course, Jantjies, how many times is it possible to fumble the ball in one game, perhaps he used the same advisor that spies used for the previous games

Except for his first touch of the ball, when he knocked it on LOL.
 
I have noticed something with defensive pattern at the breakdowns, other teams like NZ, when 2 players are defending they always make sure that at least one of these players stays on their feet in order to contest the ball, our players use the "tackle and up" (ie tackle then get onto your feet asap) tactic which has its place but when 2 players do it its a waste, the tacklers need to stay on their feet at all costs and I would even go so far as to say rather let them form a maul (which you can pull down) cause that means you can stay on your feet and compete for the ball and mauls generally result in slower ball anyway.

also the rush defense only works if you can effectively kill the ball, if you allow a player to get the ball away you're gonna get cut to pieces, which is exactly what the scots and the welshman were doing to us in the last quarter.
